Getting Thrifty in 2016!

Hi everyone!

I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas!

I took the holiday season off from blogging. There wasn’t any specific reason why I did this. I just wanted to concentrate for on my home life which includes family and friends.
I will be missing in action the first couple of weeks of the new year as well. I am going to head out on the road with Troy for a few weeks! This will be my first chance to go with him since he returned to work (he is an OTR driver, over the road). I’m excited to go traveling with him and see some different places. And just to spend that much time with him will be a great way to start the new year! I have no idea where we will end up ringing in the new year. That’s kind of the fun of it…it’s a mystery! We will be together and that is what matters!

2015 was a wonderful year for us! Troy returned to work after 10 years of being unable to drive a semi truck. In 2016 not only will he be driving he will also be a trainer. He used to be a trainer back in the day and his current company asked him if he would be a trainer for them. That is another reason I am going out on the road with him now. Once we return he will have a student assigned to him so, I won’t be able to go out with him.

2016 is going to be an exciting year! This is the year I start saving for a house. As most of you know we live in a rented townhouse. We have been wanting to move into our own home for a long time. We want some land with our house in order to really step up our DTL Herb business. We are looking forward to having our own land to grow our herbs on instead of renting land.

Now that you know that we have a large financial goal ahead of us, you must know what that means……Diann is going to be really tightening the purse strings! Every penny I can save gets me that much closer to getting my own home.

This year I will buying very few things simply because I WANT them. Not that I ever really do much of that anyway. The things that we NEED will happen but, that’s about it.
You are going to see a lot more reuse, repurpose and use what I have on hand in the upcoming year. Fortunately, I am used to this way of thinking. And I have developed the skills needed for this type of lifestyle.

Obviously, you my readers are also trying to make ends meet and still have a fun life. Otherwise, why would you visit a blog called The Thrifty Groove? I would like your input. You can see from my navigation bar above this post that I pretty much cover all aspects of life and try to be thrifty in all of them.

My question is:

What do you want to see more of in this upcoming year here at TTG?

What areas are you really trying to save money in and want ideas?

You can either leave a comment here or you can send me your thoughts via email (diann63@gmail.com).

I blog about my real life. I don’t live my life to blog. So, what you see here is my real life. I don’t have every post perfectly staged. The reality is, my life is anything but perfect. And it would take too much time to stage it so that it looked perfect. LOL

I’m really looking forward to this new chapter of my life! And since so many of you have been with me through some serious up and downs, I am glad you are here now to share this next step!

Are you ready to join me in a fun, happy but very thrifty new year?

Here are my various social media accounts. I would love for you to follow any of them. But, my Facebook page is one you really should head over and hit “like” so you can keep updated. I will be posting a lot of small thrifty tidbits and other news here that won’t always make it on the blog. I plan to get a newsletter in place soon that will also include a lot more than just my blog posts. When I figure that whole things out, I will let you know. I always have just odds and ends I want to share but, it seems to small to create a blog post about.

Thank you for visiting today! I hope you enjoyed your time here and are ready to start a fresh new thrifty New Year with me!

Have a wonderful day!

  1. Enjoy your travels with Troy!! Should be so much fun. I am looking forward to the new year. My goals continue to be to downsize and live a more simple life. I think my biggest waste is food. Cooking for one is boring and not fun. I'm home and going to have my Christmas on Wed!!
    hugs,

  2. How fun to get to spend time with the Troyman and see some of our beautiful country! You KNOW you have to let me know if you guys are in my area! We have tons of Olive Garden's here lol ;-) I'm not sure what my goal for 2016 is yet. Maybe "Don't let 2016 suck as bad as 2015 did"? LOL! I look forward to being along for the ride as you zoom right on to that new home!! #youdeserveit

  3. Have fun in the truck! I work for a trucking company (I take the paperwork the drivers turn in and convince customers to pay us) and have seen inside some of those newer trucks - they're really nice!

  4. Happy Trails! I also would like to downsize; there's just too much stuff in the spare bedroom. I'm also considering saving up for a house but I'm just not sure where I want to live.
    Happy New Year!

  5. I am looking forward to what you have in store for us! I too, need to save money, not for a house, but to replenish our emergency funds! I have to focus on what I absolutely need and not what I want.
