January Home Décor ~ Embracing the Wintery Month

Hi everyone!

As I have taken down the Christmas decorations around the house, I have been adding January wintery décor in it’s place. And for January I have always pulled out white and silver. I just feels wintery and icy to me but, also a clean fresh feel after all the fun colors and sparkle of Christmas. Using these colors, I almost feel like adding January home decorating changes gives me a fresh start for the new year.

I have a brick wall in the dining room so, I always like to use white or light colors on this shelf.

A few evergreen boughs tucked in here and there. One of my white Ironstone pitchers with a snowflake.

Another white pitcher and snowflake. The mercury glass candle holders were from the Dollar Tree. They are larger than the votive size ones.

The white coffee server is a;so Ironstone and I have a complete 6 piece cup and saucer set that goes with it. The platter in the back was a gift from Troy and few years ago.

On the shelf in the living room I did basically the same thing. Snowflakes and mercury glass décor.

All very simple.

I really like to keep January home décor simple. In February I’ll be adding pink and white Valentine décor throughout the house.

Do you have a “look” you like to create during January in your home?

  1. Very pretty! I always take the greenery down at Christmas but I do like it. And the snowflakes. (We're getting lots of that right now. I should just decorate how my heart tells me and not just my head. Thanks for sharing. Blessings, Diane

    1. Diane, I so agree. It has taken me a long time to just do what I like instead of following trends. I think it is even more difficult if you are blogger. You always feel like you should go with the flow. Well, I stopped and now do what I like. :)

I hate taking Christmas down, so I am looking for ways to decorate in December that can last thru Spring with only a few little tweaks. Got here thru Google, trying to locate some ideas to jumpstart my own creativity. Thanks for this - pinning to my Winter Warmth board.

  2. Your white ironstone looks great. I don't out out much for Valentine's day but maybe some red, but this year I kept my white Christmas tree up with heart ornaments on it. Love it!

  3. Diane, I love what you did with the shelf. Love the ironstone. You gotta love the Dollar Tree, I find so much neat stuff there for nearly nothing.

    1. Thank you Susan! I agree, the Dollar Tree and other dollar stores make it so much easier and cheaper to just have fun and add little touches here and there.

  7. I just finally got 99% of my Christmas down last two weekends, except for changing out some linens on coffee table/end tables in living room and putting wreaths/rugs away in storage closet. I did leave a 'winter' look in corner of kitchen and in my guest bathroom with snowflakes and plain white snowmen (that is what I decorate it with for Christmas, only adding a silver Merry Christmas sign over mirror). I like the idea of snow flakes added to my milk glass and ironstone on hutch and tea cart in dining room for January! I think I actually have a few snow flakes in one of the boxes that have to be put back into storage closet and might dig a few out Saturday!

    1. Thank you! i really like how the snowflakes look with the white ironstone. This was my first year using them together and I think it will now become my "regular" January decor!

  8. Your ironstone coffee server is GORGEOUS!!! A bright white refresh after Christmas is just the thing to make-up for having to put away all the pretty seasonal decorations.

    1. Thank you Miss Jane! I so lucked out finding that coffee ironstone set! It is probably one of my all time favorite thrift finds! And I have used it several times when family or friends come over for coffee and dessert.

  9. I love white and blue for January. Icy colors that seem to warm the heart. Your ironstone looks beautiful against the brick work on the wall. Snowflakes and cardinals have always been part of my January/Winter decor too.
