Finding Balance

Hi everyone!
Happy 2014!!

2013 was my “Back to Basics” year. And I followed through pretty good. A lot of the changes I made will continue on into 2014.
Finding Balance is my goal for this year. And that means to me:
  • Routines
  • Creating Good/Positive Habits
  • Planning
  • Scheduling
  • Self-Discipline
I know there are a lot of you out there that are like me…a LOT of irons in the fire. I definitely do not have a simple life. However, I can make it smoother.
Probably my biggest challenge in creating a routine is Sleep! I have struggled with a sleep schedule since the day I was born. honestly, this can be confirmed by my mom! LOL I am a night owl by nature. And I fight that on a regular basis. I even worked a 9-5 job for 7 years and fought it everyday. It never became “normal” for me to wake up at a certain time and go to bed at a certain time.
So, this is my “Achilles Heel” so to speak. I have come to realize I can no longer stay up until some insane hour, grab a couple of hours of sleep and then put in another full day. That no longer works for me and I am struggling with accepting that. Sleep is a vital part of healing and restoring our body and minds.
Eating is another huge problem for me. I am one of those people who go all day without eating and then a big evening meal or pick and snack all night. So, not good! I’m not talking about dieting here. I am talking about fueling my body regularly to keep my strength and metabolism at it’s best.
Cleaning yup, so not a favorite of mine! LOL What happened this past year is we had some major crazy busy times with our business and things that were non-business related, mainly our home, fell to the wayside. And then what happens? You get so stressed out about the clutter and the mess you wear yourself out doing a 24 hour marathon cleaning binge. Which is exhausting!
Me Time. This is something I really lost this past year. I stayed so focused on so many other things that I lost me in the process. What’s worse is that I didn’t even realize that happened until late in the year.
There are several  “sub-categories” this area.
  • Hobbies
  • Friends
  • Girl Time
  • Silliness
The above are just a few areas that Balance needs to be restored. I have my job cut out for me but, it is also much needed.
What about you? What areas do you want to change or improve on in 2014?

  1. I can relate to all you've said LOL. I never make 'resolutions' but like you, try to take a look at things I'd like to improve on or change and come up with a 'game plan' to implement to help me improve. I hope to continue working on 'relaxing' and not 'sweating the small stuff' each day/week. Happy New Year!

  2. I've always had difficulty sleeping too...hard to fall asleep and stay asleep. If you find a "cure", let me know! :) I'm so looking forward to a better year...last year was horrid. I'm focusing on the good stuff and hope to make it a great 2014!

Finally got a new computer so hopefully, I can visit more often. Wishing you a very Happy New Year and may all your dreams come true.

  3. Diann this is a great goal! I'm still working on my goals for this year. I hope I can figure things out soon. :)

  4. I need to create some routines to strengthen my self discipline. Last year tended to be extremes, all or nothing. A better lifestyle food plan is a must. Maintaining a clean house is another area I will always struggle with. I can work on one area but I let other areas slide. And I want to set some crafting me time.

  5. This year (as like many others) I have chosen the word "ME" to be my focus. I need to spend more time taking care of me - nails, hair, make-up, etc, doing things I love, spending time with people I love. I had so much death and despair in 2013 that this year is going to be a Happy New Year for ME!

  6. This year (as with many in the past) I have chosen the word "ME" to be my focus. Last year was a year of pain and heartache with the passing of many loved ones, putting mom in a nursing home for ALZ and because of this - I let myself go. So 2014 is going to be about "ME" - hair, nails, make-up, spending time with family and friends, having a positive attitude and doing things I enjoy. This is not going to be an all or nothing year - it will be a balanced year of taking care of "ME"

  7. Hi Diann...I'm with you on most of your goals.

If I were to choose one phrase for the new year, it'd be SELF-DISCIPLINE. I think in order to have it, one must have self-respect. Maybe I'm lacking in that area but I want to improve it.

Definitely I am exactly like you in the sleep category----I could go, go, go until well past midnight and then get up super early. But the body suffers and I MUST use self-discipline to get on a regular sleep schedule.

Same goes in the food department.

So that was a good post for me. Susan

  8. Diann,
Sounds like you have chosen the word "Balance" for your One Little Word for 2014!! I hope you can stop by Debbie-Dabble to see what and why i chose the Word I did as my One Little Word for 2014...

  9. Love the new "look" and the great post. I can so relate! Keep working on the sleep. I found a doctor that really helped me in this area and it is making my life brand new again. Can't wait to follow more in 2014 along your blog! xoxo aimee

  10. I'm working towards a healthier balance, too. I took on a volunteering role last year that has been a great learning experience, however, it's not bringing me joy. I need to work harder on keeping my commitments to a minimum especially since my oldest son will be a high school senior in the fall.

I'd love for you to share your post at my Motivation Monday linky next week. We focus on inspirational posts, healthy recipes, crafts, and organizing:
