My Thrifty Campground Tablescapes

Hi everyone!

Here are some camping tablescapes.

Since camping is on my mind I thought I would revisit a few of my past campground tablescapes.

If I thought I got odd looks from my neighbors when I haul out all my tablescaping trinkets to do a table outside on the patio, I discovered I get even stranger looks from fellow campers!

After they get over the “What on earth is she doing?” question, the next question is “She stores all that stuff in her trailer?”

First off, people actually have approached me at our trailer and asked me what I am doing. I would tell them that I am a blogger and I write about ways to save money yet still be able to have pretty things….blah…blah..blah. Well, what I have learned is that the bulk of the world still doesn’t understand blogging. I get this glazed over look from these good folks. I totally forget that not everyone blogs! LOL But then, their confusion gets kicked up a notch because even less people have a clue what “tablescaping” is!  And if they understand the whole tablescaping thing, they definitely do not understand why someone would do it at a campground!

I have found it is just easier to say that I photograph dishes to be used on the internet. They don’t know why I would do that but, it makes it easier for them to understand.
And then the next question, “She stores all the stuff in her trailer?” is a big “NO”. Generally the tablescapes I did from the campground were put together after a day of garage sales, flea markets or thrift stores. They get boxed up and taken home with me when we leave the campground.

I just have too much fun seeing if I can pull all the things I just found together and create something pretty with them. It is a major challenge to do this since I don’t have any other accouterments with me.

So, here are a few past campground tablescapes!

The above tablescape was made by using all the things that were kept in the trailer.

Fun acrylic dishes are great for camping (in a trailer) because they are so light and they are easy to store.

There was a fun flea market open every weekend near the campground we used to camp at. I loved heading to it first thing Saturday morning and do some “Dish Hunting”!
There were also wonderful antique stores in a nearby town that always had such pretty things. I love old restaurantware and vintage Syracuse China is a favorite of mine.
This was a simple 4th of July picnic using things I had plus paper and plastic items. Just fun and cheerful!
So, that was a few of my past camping tablescapes. I hope you enjoyed them and have a wonderful day!

  1. I have always loved how creative you are at doing a tablescape with your camping treasures you find. I think they are all totally fantastic. Gorgeous. Hugs, Marty

  2. Every time I stop by I wonder just how you are going to blow me away again with your creativity and thriftiness then you pull this one out of your hat! You are the queen dear! Hope you are having a terrific weekend!

  3. I agree with Marty. You really have a talent for putting together wonderful tablescapes with what you have on hand. It's great to see that you really don't have to spend a fortune to have a fun and inviting table. I know what you mean, too, about the blank looks you get when you mention "tablescaping". I've gotten quite a few of them myself. :)

  4. I am going to try to do some tablescaping challenges for myself while at my Mom's! I don't have all my 'stuff' and so I'm going to see what I can do with whats here and just have fun with it! Love your talented tablescapes with what you find on your thrifty hunts! Hugs, Linda

  5. Love the tables capes. Maybe Summer really is just around the corner.......

  6. I love them but especially the patriotic one. I have a book giveaway
going on at my blog if you want to check it out.

  8. So glad you showed your camping tablescapes. We are going soon and I have been thinking about a camping tablescape.

  12. My side is on fire from laughing so hard! I know what you mean about that "glazed look" that comes over people's faces who know nothing about blogs or tablescaping. The blog thing is SO much easier to explain than the tablescaping thing! Even women who I would THINK would get it are just baffled! It's not until they actually see the site that they get it...sort of! :-) You made my day with this one! Hilarious! And thanks for sprucing up our nation's campgrounds with your great tablescapes! :-)

  13. Like the 4th of July tablescape. You can use it for Memorial day too. people wonder why i take pictures of stuff too. when I say i blog, I often get that deer in the headlights look. LOL take care

  14. Love all of these pretty tablescapes,Diann! It's fun that you go to local thrift stores and find things to make your tablescape, starting at square one. Have a great week and Memorial Day weekend, and good luck with your herb business this summer.
    Hugs and blessings, Beth

  15. Hi, Your creations are inspiring and beautiful. I, too have glazed a few eyes in my day. heehee Have fun, Connie

  16. I don't camp (scarred from childhood of camping!) but I can relate to people not having a clue about blogging and tablescaping. I don't really tell people unless my husband mentions it first. My daughter's friends think it's great but then they live their lives on the internet! I love all your camping tablescapes and am truly impressed with what you did with limited resources. Photos taken outside always come out the best too!

  17. I did enjoy this post as it is just what I do, I have posted this week about my holiday treasure finds. x:)

  18. Ps, It's funny,I find that people still say, what, when I say I blog, you what they say. Unbelievable

  19. Oh, you have the BLUES:) They are so beautiful..

Visiting for Blue Monday- hope you can stop by:)
