Thrifty Things Friday #52

Hi everyone!

First I want to thank each and every one of you for being part of my 3rd year blog anniversary! And the winner of the 3rd week magazine giveaway is…….

Ginger at

SavannahGranny

Congrats Ginger!

Today also marks the 52 TTF which means it is the 1 year anniversary of Thrifty Things Friday! I got this party handed down to me. Linda at A La Carte passed the torch to me.

I know that this party is one of the smaller Friday parties out there. And to be honest, I have never pushed this party or really promoted it. I probably should have but, I kind of like the intimacy that a smaller party gives me. I really enjoy visiting each of you who stop by and link up. I know I never could visit everyone if this party was huge. Wow, I sound like the “anti-blogger” don’t I? I don’t mean to.

I have had a lot of regular bloggers who join my party each week (or pretty close to each week) and I can almost always look at the thumbnail and know which one  belongs to each blogger. And I really like that. I have had the opportunity to get to know you a little bit because I pop over and catch up at least once a week.

It’s kind of like a family. And for those of you who have recently started joining the party, I am slowly getting to know you as well. And I really like that. So, I just wanted to say thank you for joining my little weekly party. I really appreciate each of you!

And one last surprise before I start the party.

I want to thank Linda for handing down this party to me. And she is always a supporter of the party and links up all the time. So, as a small thank you, Linda (she doesn’t know about this until she reads it! LOL) I want to give you a 1 year magazine subscription as well! Even though I already know what your choice of magazine is, you still gotta email me girl! LOL

Okay, on with the show!

Last year, after Easter, I picked up some things at CTS that were clearanced. One of the things I picked up was this cute little pastel Easter egg tree. This wasn’t just clearanced with the other Easter things. It had a lot of damage so, it was in the “super reduced” area. It was originally priced at $13.99, which I thought was insane and not something CTS usually has priced that high. But, in the super reduced clearance area it was marked down to .39 cents.

You can see the damage. I figured one of 3 things would happen to this little tree.

  1. Repaint or glitterize the little damaged eggs
  2. Cut off the good eggs and use them in another project
  3. Throw it away

IMG_1243

Well, I had just redecorated the little St. Patrick's Day topiary I had.

And after that redo, I had all of these.

Hum. How about turning the little egg tree into a blooming Easter Egg Tree? So, I cut the stems off these little white flowers and glued them on the damaged eggs.

Nothing real fancy schmancy but, I think it looks kind of sweet.

I think the .39 cents turned into a cute little tree. What do you think? Was this makeover worth .39 cents?

Okay, on to the party!

  3. First of all thank you for taking this party over for me last year! With the birth of my Grandson I wasn't sure I would have time and you were a natural choice to pass the torch to. I've tried not to miss a single party you hosted this year! What a sweet surprise to give me a one year subscription to a magazine! I will email you of course!

I love your little Easter tree makeover and think adding the flowers was perfect! Extra sweet and very thrifty. Thanks Diann for being such a great friend and mentor to me. I have come a long way baby in my blogging and I owe so much of that to you. Aw shucks, enough mush! Hugs, Linda

  4. Your 39¢ went a long way, Diann! Adding the little flowers made the egg branch so much more spring-like. I am so very glad that this party has stayed personal and small. The big linky parties with 300+ entries are way too big. You can't visit everyone- you'd be online for a week and that is for just one party! Not to mention that people don't visit much these days- they link and run and rarely leave comments. Not like it was in the "old" days! LOL I miss the intimacy. When I first started blogging, Rhoda's party was the first link-up I ever did. I used to visit all 80-something (and that was a lot back then!) of the party links because I wanted to meet some friends. With all the parties out there these days, I have decided to become more selective and start monitoring where the traffic is being generated and who is leaving comments. Congratulations on the year anniversary of hosting! hugs, Sue

  16. That was a good solution - it looks cute!

Congrats on 3 years of blogging!

Acutally, I prefer smaller link parties. This way I can actually make it to most people. In the larger ones I really have to limit myself and don't get to visit everyone I would like to.

  21. Hello!
Congrats on the anniversary of this party!!
I don't join up every week because I don't always have great buys to share but I do also like the fact that this is a smaller party. I like the blogs that are smaller and more personalized and the ones that you do not feel that you are looking at a professional business blog. Same thing with parties. Even though I do join the larger parties, I can't help but feel your post is just a number, one out of 300 - 400 ones...
Blogging is supoosed to be fun and personal and I always get that feeling when I visit you so keep up the good work!!

    Hugs,
    Deb
