Had to do a Little Antiquing!

Hi everyone!
Saturday Troy and I had such a fun and busy day. The Princess was at Grandma’s for a sleepover. We started our day at our Master Gardener’s Class which was a very good and interesting class.
We live south of Detroit and our class is on the other side of Detroit so, as we were driving home, we decided to stop and check out the Eastern Market in downtown Detroit.
I will share more of the Eastern Market with you in other posts. But, today I thought I would show you a little antique store that I found in the Market District.
While Troy was next door talking to the guys in a gardening store, I snuck in here to check it out.
It was a candy store for antiquers, junkers and thrifters. I loved it!
It is an old three store building in downtown Detroit.
It was a maze in this place. When I got up to the second floor I over heard a couple talking and the wife was saying she heard there was more store than just this. And the husband said that he had wandered back into all the rooms and he said you need a GPS to find your way back!
He wasn’t joking. I would spot a tucked away door and go through it into another huge section. And each time I went through a door I went higher into the building and it got darker and less “store-like” and more “storage-like”. But, it was all for sale.
When you start to get into these darker areas, I noticed that the “antiquers” started going back into the main store parts.
I have a weird obsession with chairs. I don’t know what it is but, I just love them! I really wanted to get the set of white wicker chairs and one of the white wicker tables. But, I have no place for them! Arghhh!
This area was the very top furthest and darkest room in the store. It was called the Primitive Barn. Very few people ventured back here. Not me! I was excited to head into this room because I just knew that this was going to be the best bargain place in the store!
I found a stack of old really beaten up cutlery boxes in the back of the room. I have a lot of different sets and partial sets of thrifted flatware that I generally have picked through boxes to find. So, I have been looking for and buying cutlery boxes to store them in. But, they have to be a good bargain. This one was.

The inside was in beautiful condition. The outside…not so much. But, for $3.00, this one came home with me. When wood cutlery boxes are beaten up this bad, I have no problem restoring them in a new stain or painting them. When I find these boxes and they are in decent shape with the exception of a few scratches, I really don’t like to redo them completely. I just try to fix the scraps as best I can.
I bought a couple of other things. Not very much because I was not planning on thrifting when we were in Eastern Market. We were going to check out all the vendors and the produce mainly.
Of course, after a long afternoon of shopping and walking around we had to hit up a local favorite restaurant in the hub of the Eastern Market for a late lunch!
When we try a new restaurant, we always try one of the daily specials. We had the German Tomato soup and grilled Polish Sausage Reuben. We ended up taking half of our lunch home, there was just so much! Their dressing on the slaw was to die for! I had to ask about it and was told they use fresh herbs daily from the market right across the street. I am going to attempt to duplicate it at home. Good luck to me! LOL
As you can see from the picture below, the day was beautiful. Sunny, no clouds and happy blue sky! What a perfect day to go adventuring!
When we got home, we had just enough time to get ready to head out with friends to a Gladys Knight performance, What a blast that was! We just had a completely fun filled day!
Thanks for stopping by for a visit. I hope you are having a great day!
