Last 7 Days of the Month

Hi everyone!
The Hubs and I were talking and we decided to challenge ourselves by having a “NO SPENDING WEEK” at the end of each month. So, the last 7 days of the month there will be no unnecessary spending. It will be a monthly Financial Fast .
no
We have been working on our budget for the year. So not a fun thing to do. But, a necessary evil. Since winter is our slowest time of the year regarding our business, very little extra money is available to us. So, we need to tighten our belts even more.
Unnecessary spending includes:
  • No eating out
  • No stopping and grabbing a soft drink/coffee
  • No thrifting
  • No wasting gas running around
  • Make sure all unused rooms have their lights turned off
To be honest, this won’t be very difficult for us. We have gone months at a time with no unnecessary spending. This is more to keep us on track. It’s kind of like dieting. The whole, “I am just having a taste of this while I am cooking or, I am just going to have a bite of this”. Well, all those “bites” add up in calories. The same thing is true with money. One dollar here and there may not seem like a lot but, it can add up quickly. And so can coins. I am so surprised to see how many people don’t treat coins like money. Just the other day I was in line at a customer service desk and the guy in front of me reached in his pocket to pull out a receipt and some change flew out of his pocket. He just looked at and shrugged. When he walked away, I picked up the change. $1.37 went into my wallet.
Have you challenged yourself regarding your finances for 2012? Feel free to join me in my No Spending Week once a month. At the first of the month, I will let you know how we did and any tips that helped ease us through that week.

Joining: Saturday 7

  2. Diane, I watched a television documentary last night about Extreme Cheapskates. ( I am definitely not saying that what you and hubby are) but a man on there was talking about a financial fast. He and his wife do it once monthly. They save a great deal of money. I think its a great idea!

  4. I can't believe the guy didn't pick up the money! So many people out of work and having a hard time paying the bills. Food has gone up so much, the cost of meat, ouch!
We try to be frugal, no movies, maybe twice a month eat out. Haven't been on a vacation in ages. But I pay my bills, and that is the most impt to me. My little bargain hunting at CTS is my biggest splurge, and I haven't been there in over a month!

  5. Good idea, we've been doing something similar since the start of the new year. No take outs and no extra drinks etc sure does help.

  6. I agree with you dining out is a lot of money spend and for the fact that our pantry, freezer, and refrigerator is full of food. Why we have to go out and eat? I told that one time to hubby and that made him stopped going out dining all the time, lol! But for me I have to minimize my thrifting. I have been thinking about this the other day but today I was tempted, I spent $27.00. So I promise not to spend through thrifting till the end of the month. Will see hehehe! Great post!

  9. We have not been going out to dinner or movies.
we do not go much of any where, the results is we play cards a lot, watch movies that come from library, and work on a puzzles. Not a bad way to spend the winter.
