Potato Tips

Hi everyone!

I thought I would share a couple of tips regarding potatoes! I know, you have been just waiting around for me to give tips with potatoes huh? LOL

mp

  • When boiling potatoes, add milk to the water~about 1/4 cup to 2 quarts of water.  Improves the flavor and helps keep the potatoes white.
  • To help bake your potatoes faster, cut one end off the potato before baking.
  • For lighter mashed potatoes beat with hot milk instead of cold.
  • Leftover mashed potatoes? Try adding some onion, salt and pepper to them, make patties, coat in flour and freeze on a cooking sheet then pop into a freezer bag. You have frozen potato pancakes whenever you want.
  • Want a little different taste to your mashed potatoes? Cook your potatoes with some carrots. Then mash together. Yummy taste and a fun color.
  • Got older or overcooked potatoes? Add some dry milk to make them fluffier.

I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend!

  2. Great tips, Diann! I will add another for you...when cooking diced potatoes for salad add a splash of vinegar to the water to keep them from falling apart.

  5. Thanks for the tips on potatoes. I always add cream cheese to my mashed potatoes if I have to make them early before serving. makes them very yummy and holds them from drying out. And of course lots of butter. Right, Paula? Richard from My Old Historic House.

  7. I bake my potatoes before mashing rather than boiling. More flavor that way. If you want you can use the shells for serving the mashed potatoes.
