Thrifty Things Friday #28

Hi everyone!

Last week after I dropped the princess off at school, I saw a sign for an estate sale. Since this was my first day out of the house in over 5 days (the whole nasty bug thing going on at our home), I decided I was in need of some thrifting time!

It was a rainy day, so, only a few people were there. Mostly guys out in the garage. I walked into the small house and instantly saw the living room filled with medical equipment (walkers, shower chairs, chair potties….you get the picture). Not having high hopes, I started walking through the other rooms.

In the kitchen, the entire table was filled with glassware. A big sign stating that all glasses were .05 cents each. Okay then! I found several different sets of glasses I wanted. Okay, not a total loss. I then went into the dining room and saw a set of 6 dining room chairs that needed reupholstered seats but, would work for me.

I headed down stairs. Now this house had a “Michigan basement”. Unfinished, very low ceilings, numerous small dungeon feeling rooms. It was kind of creepy down there, I must confess but, I am a trained professional thrifter! LOL Well, maybe not trained.

A couple of people came downstairs after me. Took one look around. Sniffed the musty air and looked disgusted and headed back upstairs. Not Moi! I’m a picker. I am tough. I showed no fear. And my super-thrifting-powers kicked in and I dug for treasures. And I found several!

I hauled my treasures up those death trap stairs! After a couple of trips up and down and a pound of cobwebs in my hair and on my coat, I felt satisfied!

“Ahhhhhh, it’s good to be back in my world!”

You will be seeing many of my treasures in upcoming posts. but today, I am sharing this one with you.

10-11 bargains 001 I am the first to admit, I am not a Pyrex collector. I have several vintage pieces that I like but, my knowledge is not strong in this area.

10-11 bargains 002 After grabbing a Kleenex from my pocket full of them, I wiped some of the grim and dust accumulation off of this set. I have never seen this design before. But, I really liked it a lot! And the set was in wonderful condition (minus before mentioned grim and dust).

10-11 bargains 003Does anyone know anything about this design?

10-11 bargains 004Since I love to use these types of dishes/servers, this will get a lot of use here! I paid $3.00 for the set.

Let’s check out a couple of fun linkups from last week’s party!

Pamela at From My Front Porch to Yours shared this beautiful thrifty chair that just fit her room perfectly!

  4. When my girlfriend and I were out shopping she bought one just like it, but a different pyrex pattern. Her daughter loves the 60's style and it is a present for her.

    Thanks as always for hosting!!

  7. Now that's the kind of sale to hit after extended down-time away from thrifting! I think sometimes the walkers, etc. are a good sign of vintage treasures to be found. Looking forward to seeing your other finds.

  13. So funny! My grown daughter won't go to estate sales with me cause they creep her out. And yes, you have to look past the medical equipment, and often cat pee! EWWWW!

I have never seen this pattern before but it is rather cute!
I love pyrex because you can go form the microwave or the oven to the refrigerator.
And it seems to hold up forever!!
