Don’t You Love Red Glass?

Hi everyone!

Do you remember the Avon “1876 Cape Cod Collection”? I love all of the pieces. However, over the years, those pieces have become major collector items!10-11 bargains 041So, when I stopped at a yard sale and saw these two candlesticks for sale at a great price, I snatched them up!

The 1876 Cape Cod Collection was introduced in 1975. The first two pieces were the tall candlesticks and cruet. Avon continued to add new pieces to the collection each year while some items were discontinued at the same time. The last year of production was 1993 with the cup & saucer, bread & butter plate and pie plate, being the new items that were made. During the next couple of years, orders still could be placed for any item still in stock but no new pieces were made. Gradually the inventory was depleted and 1876 Cape Cod Collection was officially discontinued in 1995. Once production of the 1876 Cape Cod ceased

  1. I used to have the whole collection of the red dishes by Avon. Gave them to one of my sons and his wife in an effort to clear things out a bit. They were wonderful to use at Christmas time. I'll have to check and see if they kept them.

  3. I have lots and lots of red glass!!! I can't believe you found those incredible mugs at a dollar store? I will have to run out to ours and see by chance if they have any. I've told myself to stop, but when you see things like that. Wow!
My love of red glass started as a child, my Grandmother had the most amazing red glass hanging lamp with crystals. I found some incredible cake plates I use for everything and it went from there. They match well with red transferware too. Lovely post, tami

  4. Diann, I got the mugs, glasses, plates and bowls in the Dollar Tree a few years ago. But they were gone in a flash. They are by Arroroc I believe.
I don't have any of the Avon, but I love it!
    Lucky you!

    YEA FOR SCARLET

Yea for scarlet, yea for red!
    Yea for summertime that’s fled
    To some far-off frigid place,
Where no ruby shows its face!

  28. I love these dishes. My grandmother started selling Avon when my mom was pregnant with me and she always told me growing up that her set would be my set someday. Alas, I don't think that is going to happen now. BUT my MIL has the set too and decided to gift me with some of it last Christmas! I cried, of course!

Anyway, I have been asked to put together a holiday table at our church's women's dinner NEXT WEEK! I have plates, saucers, cake stand and goblets from this set. I can also borrow other pieces from my MIL --- BUT WHAT TO DO?? It's a "tuscan" theme??? Any hints or suggestions? I would so appreciate it!
