An Improvised 4th of July Tablescape

Hi everyone!

Well, for those who don’t follow me on facebook (I told everyone we were going up to the campground), we are on a mini vacation. We got to the campground Friday evening. And much to my dismay, the internet is not working! OYE! So, that is why you haven’t heard from me in a couple of days. Right now I am at a local truck stop posting this.  We plan on heading home Wednesday. So, I will be on a true vacation..no internet, no phone and no tv!

I put this table together while at the campground. Putting together a tablescape at the campground is always an adventure. It’s not like I have access to all my tablescaping treasures. I have a few things here at the trailer that I can use but, let’s face it, you really can’t store much unnecessary frivolous things in a travel trailer. So improvising is necessary. And that means I have to Think…Oh, that hurts!

What makes me really insane is the fact that I have a large box of all kinds of 4th of July dishes and little accessories all ready for a tablescape and I forgot it at home! Arghhhh! Fortunately, I  have always used red/white/blue while camping. So, I do have some dishes. And I picked up a few things while thrifting.

So, let’s see what we can do.

4th of july weekend 2011 052 I started with my red/white/blue tablecloth which I have had for about 7 years now. Yeah, it’s got some stains on it.

4th of july weekend 2011 0534th of july weekend 2011 054To make the centerpiece I used a blue wire and wicker tray I just picked up at a yard sale while camping.

4th of july weekend 2011 055 I added the large white wood lantern that was clearanced last summer for $2.00 at CTS because some of the wood pieces came out. My dad fixed it perfectly for me. I don’t dare put a candle in it until evening. It is just too freakin’ hot and it would surely melt!

4th of july weekend 2011 0564th of july weekend 2011 057  I found these cute ceramic star s & p at Family Dollar in town. They were $1.00 for the set.

4th of july weekend 2011 058 I added a couple of American flags to the lantern.

4th of july weekend 2011 015 I picked up two milk glass vases at a yard sale here for .05 each. And filled them with faux dollar store flowers.

All the dinnerware is dishes I keep in the trailer.

4th of july weekend 2011 036Very fancy huh? LOL Let’s break it down.

4th of july weekend 2011 042I started with the blue and white metal enamelware dinner plate.

4th of july weekend 2011 043I added the cute red and white polka dot acrylic plate.

4th of july weekend 2011 044Then came an American flag paper plate.

4th of july weekend 2011 045Topping with a white square acrylic bowl.

4th of july weekend 2011 038I used the plastic red baskets with American flag paper napkins to hold the white plasticware.

4th of july weekend 2011 046I finished with a blue metal enamelware cup and a fancy red plastic cup.

I actually like the way everything came together. It looks just like it should, a 4th of July picnic table at a campground!

4th of july weekend 2011 0354th of july weekend 2011 0374th of july weekend 2011 0394th of july weekend 2011 0414th of july weekend 2011 0474th of july weekend 2011 0484th of july weekend 2011 0494th of july weekend 2011 050

I am not even cropping out all the real life stuff going on in the background. We have a 3 yr. old, she has toys. And water hose to fill her little pool.

4th of july weekend 2011 051A Happy and fun 4th of July for the three of us!  Dinner will be the must have outdoor picnic at a campground food.

  2. Hi Diann,
Love your tablescape! You think of everything! It looks nice and sunny there. It's pouring down rain here, but it is needed badly and helps keep the temps down. Have a wonderful vacation!

  4. A beautiful table, just perfect for the holiday! Love the s&p shakers! The lantern decorated nicely, didn't it? Be safe and have fun - hope you get to see some fireworks. Ours may be rained out as we're having quite a storm right now, but we'll see.

  8. That is for sure the best dressed table in the entire campground. Very festive and fun.
    Enjoy your "technology" vacation.

I wish I had a 3 year old to play with again, of course that would also put me back into my 20's. (sigh) I miss that even more.

When you get back please check out my late July 4 post about upcoming parties and contests.
