Soft and Pretty Pink Tea

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! We sure did!

A couple of weeks ago Troy and I were in Ann Arbor (Michigan) for an appointment. When we were heading home, we spotted a thrift store. You know I can’t pass by a new thrift store! So, we stopped in and browsed. Well, for the most part this very small thrift store was way over priced for me. We did buy 6 books (3 for $1.00) and I spotted this teacup in the glass case at the register. I was reluctant to even ask to see it because I figured it would be overpriced. But, it was so different from my other teacups, I figure what the heck, I don’t have to buy it. So, the lady pulled it out. There were actually two of these teacups sets. One was $3.00 and the other was $4.00. First of all, I was pleasantly surprised at the prices. When she pulled both out, I told her I would buy the four dollar set if I can switch out the saucers with the $3.00 one. She said okay. The other saucer had all the gold worn off.

This is the first  teacup set I have ever owned that has no design on it.

Camomile Tea

Katherine Mansfield

Outside the sky is light with stars;
There's a hollow roaring from the sea.
And, alas! for the little almond flowers,
The wind is shaking the almond tree.

How little I thought, a year ago,
In the horrible cottage upon the Lee
That he and I should be sitting so
And sipping a cup of camomile tea

Light as feathers the witches fly,
The horn of the moon is plain to see;
By a firefly under a jonquil flower
A goblin toasts a bumble-bee.

We might be fifty, we might be five,
So snug, so compact, so wise are we!
Under the kitchen-table leg
My knee is pressing against his knee.

Our shutters are shut, the fire is low,
The tap is dripping peacefully;
The saucepan shadows on the wall
Are black and round and plain to see.

I bought these 3 pretty china eggs last summer at a large outdoor flea market near our campground. I paid (I think) $2.00 for all three.

Cup Of Tea
When the world is all at odds
And the mind is all at sea
Then cease the useless tedium
And brew a cup of tea.
There is magic in its' fragrance,
There is solace in its' taste;
And the laden moments vanish
Somehow into space.
And the world becomes a lovely thing!
There's beauty as you'll see;
All because you briefly stopped
To brew a cup of tea.
"If you are cold, tea will warm you;
if you are depressed it will cheer you;
if you are excited it will calm you."
~William Gladstone

The fragrance of violets is heavenly, and often it evokes fond memories. Since Victorian times, the tradition of violet tea has held an allure for those who like the finer things in life. It is a quintessential tea for afternoon tea parties and will bring out the essence of days gone by for everyone. If you love the fragrance of violet, the aroma will delight you as it fills your home upon making a cup or more of violet tea.

Make Fresh Violet Tea:

  • Steep fresh violets directly to make tea. Add 2-3 teaspoons fresh violet flowers to 1 cup of boiling water. If making a teapot, add as many flowers as cups to be made. Allow to steep for five minutes, strain and serve.

Thank you for stopping by today for a little tea party!

  27. Hi Diann
    So many pretty things again today and your new teacup will go with any tea you serve.
    It is unusual to see a set without flowers or design of some sort but sometimes simple elegance is nice.
