Yes, We Use Them!

Poor Troy! He is always so confused about all my thrifted treasures.
Last week, Troy had a few mystery shops to do in a nearby city. We don’t go down to this city on a regular basis so, with the time he had to kill between shops, he decided to check out their Goodwill store. He knows what I look for and what I have on my “I need these items” list. He knows that I have been making a lot of the different pedestal stands out of old dishes to sell. So, I am looking for different dishes for that. Well, I started getting texted pictures of different dish set from him. He wanted to know if I wanted any of these sets. He texted me the price and the maker of each one as well. He ended up being the proxy for me and the manager at the store. I thought some of the prices were too high and wanted to haggle a lower price if Troy bought all three sets. We ended up getting a good deal on all three sets. Two of the sets were made by Haviland.

This is just a set of saucers by Haviland.  I use a lot of saucer in making the pedestals. Pretty delicate pink and blue flowers.

The other set he got were these Haviland dinner plates. They have a pretty floral design in a dusky grayish blue.

Well, I washed the dinner plates and removed some of my other everyday dishes that we have been using and added these. Last night for dinner was the first time I used them. When Troy saw the plate he was confused. He told me, “Um, I thought I got these for you to make cake stands with”. I said I was going to make cake stands out of them……eventually. “So, why are we eating on them now?” “Because I always like to use my pretty new finds before I sell them or turn them into something else.” “But Diann, these were bought JUST for making the stands and they are that fancy name maker.” He said. “All the more reason to use them and enjoy them for awhile.”
He just shook his head and ate his dinner off the Haviland plate. LOL
Our house will always have rotating dishes. That is one of the best parts of finding new treasures.

  3. Wow, we NEVER find any kind of fine plates like that in our area. As a matter of fact our Goodwill is practically only selling NEW things in their housewares department now. Very strange indeed. But you certainly have some lovely dishes.

  4. Hey Diann! The all blue flowered ones are very expensive! I have a set that my out law gave me when we first got married. I later found them in an antique store and they are worth a lot of money! After she found that out she wanted them back! lol I kept them. Long story there! lol Mine are in a box in the attic right now. I have the coffee pot, creamer and sugar bowl and a clock that is made out of a plate.

    Have a Great Day!

  19. My family is confused as well. But it makes perfect sense to me. I use all my plates, before I sell them. Then I get to buy new plates. Win/win.

  24. Gorgeous plates, Diann! Troy did well! One of those sets looks like Forever Spring, which I have a few pieces of (thrifted also). I'm not sure that it is Forever Spring - I would need to go get mine out of storage and compare. At any rate, they're really pretty.

  28. You have one of the best relationships I know. That man is a keeper.
I wish our thrift shops would "negotiate." Their attitude is, don't like the price, don't buy it. And if you say something is chipped or imperfect they would rather throw it away than discount it. :(
