Slim Pickin’s

Hi everyone!

This week in the wonderful world of thrifting was Slim pickin’s for me. And that’s okay. Some weeks are like that. But, I have a few things to share.

This set of 4 placemats were $1.49 at a thrift store. I am sorry about the lighting! The color of the fabric is actually a lavender color not the pinkish color that is showing up.

Feb 2011 bargains 106 I have to admit, I adore eyelet fabric. I just think there is something so sweet about it. And I have NO lavander placemats! How can that be? So, when I spotted these pretty lavender eyelet placemats, I snatched them up.

Feb 2011 bargains 104 I have had a couple of projects in mind for shadow boxes and have been searching the thrift stores for some. I spotted these two in an aqua green color and they were marked $1.79 each but, they were an additional 50% off that!

Feb 2011 bargains 107 But, now that I am looking at them, I kinda like the little flowers and the saying in them. So, I might just do a paint redo and live with them for awhile and see if I really want to gut out the center as well to add the things I had planned to add.

Feb 2011 bargains 108 Feb 2011 bargains 109 I spotted these candle sconces and thought the design was very pretty. I know, they are those heavy plastic sconces but, I still liked them. They were each marked .79 cents but, like I said earlier, it was 50% off day and well, for .39 cents each, I got them!

Now I have to decide if I am going to paint them a white and do a shabby thing to them for either the bathroom or my bedroom. Or stain them to match a large picture I am staining right now and use them next to the picture in the living room. Oh, the choices!

Feb 2011 bargains 112 And I found some spools of gift wrap scarving at our local Dollar Store. They were considered Christmas items so. they were .50 cents each. I love this wide organza ribbon. They only had a purple color and a dark midnight blue color. I would have bought at least one of every color they had if they had more. These are so great for a ton of different things!

Feb 2011 bargains 114 Feb 2011 bargains 115 So, as you can see, not a lot of money was spent thrifting this week. Which is okay by me because that means I get to add more to my “thrifting allowance” next week!

So, did you find any fun bargains this week?

  3. Sounds like you did get some great finds even if it was only a few of them. Great price on those sconces. I found the same ones once, painted them aqua and glazed them for my etsy shop. I know I paid more than $.39 for them!

  4. The placemats are very pretty. I had good thrifting for the first time in a long time this past weekend. When march gets here garage sales and estate sales will get infinitely better here. I am trying to search for a few targeted items but I stray easily when I spot a true bargain!

  7. The only thing worse than a bad thrifting day is... I found a cute spring luncheon plate set, bought it $1, brought it home, washed it, and then found out that somehow I chipped the cup:@(

  14. You found some wonderful treasures! I have been attracted to those sconces before too, and have thought about buying them and painting them because I love the scrolliness (is that a word? lol) to them. I love your sign at the beginning of your post!!!! I need that for my sidebar. :) I'm the same way when I don't find a lot of things, I just think oh well...more money for next time!!!
