Do You Bribe Yourself?

Oh, I do! How sad is that! I know some of you out there are these amazing Domestic Goddesses, unfortunately, I am not one of them. For the most part, I do think of household chores as chores! I have tried to change this obvious character flaw many times. Nothing works. So, those of you who can smile and enjoy doing housekeeping chores, if you learn how to extract that DNA and choose to sell it, I will be the first one at your Etsy Store! For the rest of us Housekeeping challenged, what do you do to motivate yourself to get the yucky chores done?

Today I am sharing one of my least favorite things along with one of my favorite things.

Me, I have the “Bribe Diann” system. Yup, I use the same system that I have to apply to my 3 year old! Of course, her reward for being good is she gets to help Mama clean! She gets very excited to be involved in this process. Little does she know, I am just training her. LOL

However, today is a big honkin’ cleaning day. The worst kind. Bleck! So, the Princess’s “reward” for today’s chores is, yes folks, it is “Window Cling Day” here again. The Valentine window clings will be removed and the St. Paddy Day window clings will be going up! I’m thinking I need to announce this sooner to y’all so, you can join us for this important holiday ritual! So, you might want to start thinking about Easter window clings now! LOL

tip of the week 012

But, window clings aren’t MY reward. No, I have a special Diann reward today. I picked up a couple of magazines and a book that I normally wouldn’t buy due to price. But, I recently splurged and I will also pass them to my mom when I am done and she will feel like it is a big splurge as well.

tip of the week 013This “Flower Style” book is from Victoria. I found it at the Home Goods Store for $4.99. Not a bad price for a reference type of book. And I will keep it and look at it for inspiration.

tip of the week 015This is one of those splurge magazines and in the big picture of Home Decor magazines, this one isn’t nearly as expensive as so many others I love.

tip of the week 016This is a new magazine to me. I know, I am way out of the loop when it comes to magazines. I just don’t buy very many of them. They just generally are not in my budget. The Fresh Home magazine is a DIY Home Decor mag. I also subscribe to their blog newsletter. You can find it here!

tip of the week 017And of course, you saw in the background the latest issue of All You. My subscription was up on that one and so, I picked it up. You can only buy it at Walmart. It had tons of great coupons in it.

So, do you have a special “Housekeeping Reward” system? If so, what kind of rewards do you give yourself?

  1. Well done for doing the chores - i hate them too - blugh! I'm also one for giving myself some magazine or internet time as a reward for getting through the cleaning tasks. I will have to wait for my son to be a bit older so I can start the child bribe lol. Scarlett x

  2. I do not bribe myself but I do get into the groove of things by turning up the radio and listen to the oldies on Sirus. I remember so many of the songs and I just move to the music.
It helps get those tasks done quickly.
    Have a great weekend.

  3. I try to do my "chores" first thing in the morning when I wake up. I find if I sit down to have my coffee first, then I never actually get to the chores...weird, huh

  4. I'm not reward oriented because at our ages if we want it we buy it...lol...I love that you are though because it brings joy to you.

  8. I've never seen that Fresh Home magazine, but then I don't buy magazines either, because they're so $$$. I haven't bribed myself yet to do the chores, but I must say that my house isn't as dusty since I started blogging. I just can't take a picture for my blog without dusting first!

  9. I totally relate! It' more like psyche myself out to do my chores. I have to rise and shine and just hit it before I think of other things I'd rather be doing. Love to read all of those magazines too! Don't know if I could clean if I had some new ones laying around.
    Have a great weekend!

  12. Now that I finally get to be a stay at home wife (thank God) I gladly clean and garden happily because I remember those long shifts at the hospital. I do reward myself for errands I do not like, like car repairs. I bundle them with lunch out or thrifting.

  13. Hi Diann, I really don't like housework either, but you know, since I stay home and my husband gladly goes to work every day to support me...that motivates me. I'm grateful for my husband. Have a wonderful weekend, dear friend!
    Blessings, Beth

  15. Cute cute bribe idea for the little one. Honestly? I don't think there is a bribe BIG enough to get me to want to do chores....except maybe more thrifting money!! Hey now there's an idea!!! "HONEY????? Come here, I have an idea!!!!" thanks Diann....gotta run and plant a bug in the hubby's ear. Heck I'd even mow for thrift money. LOL!!!

  16. There's nothing better than splurging of glossy magazines. Have fun! You deserve it.

  17. Diann, you are cracking me up! Somebody really could make a fortune if they sold THAT DNA in an Etsy! I'd be having to buy monthly doses! Unfortunately, I award myself with chocolate, but what is even worse, I get a bite of chocolate after completing EACH chore! I've been trying to convince my husband that cleaning house is making me fat, but I haven't made much progress with that argument! That flower arrangement book looks wonderful! I LUV a pretty magazine. Thanks for linking to Favorite Things. laurie
