Samatha Had These Dishes!

Hi everyone!

Okay, I am kind of cheating today with my tablescape but, I got so excited the other day when I saw these retro dishes on TV, that I had to find this post and repost it.LOL

I was doing some projects and had the TV on watching Bewitched. Oh yes, that can't surprise you that I like the old vintage sitcoms. Afterall, I love all the retro stuff. Anywho, Samatha was setting the table and lo and behold, she was using MY dishes!! That is totally cool to me! That's heard me correctly...Samatha Stevens was using my retro dishes for her breakfast table, just like I did!

So, you know I just HAD to repost this tablescape from last year. Seriously folks, these dishes are famous! Well, okay, maybe not famous exactly.

I have actually seen several of my thrifted retro finds on old sitcoms before. I have spotted items used on I Dream of Jeannie and The Dick Van Dyke Show . But, the very best "famous" thrift find I have is ....are you ready for this? Our dining room set, which I got at St. Vincent De Paul about 9 years ago. It is the same set (well, probably not the actually set) that was used on The Beverly Hillbillies!! Yes folks, I AM that retro! It is the set that is used in their kitchen by the door going out to the cement pond.

Now I know you guys are all going to want to run out and tell all your friends that you have a friend who has The Beverly Hillbilles dining room table set. And that is just fine but, I am afraid I don't have the time to do interviews or photo ops with THE dining room table and chairs.

You can see the table set in his episode about 15 minutes into it.

On with my other famous retro TV items, "Samatha Stevens Breakfast dishes"!

I thought you might want to come on in and sit down and enjoy a little breakfast with me.

Here, I set a place for you.

Ohh, thank you I think they are cute plates too! It is kind of nice having this pretty salmon table setting. It's a very retro/vintage set I found last summer while at an outdoor flea market. They only had 2 dinner plate, 2 saucers and 2 cups. But, that worked wonderful for me!

Let's take a closer look at these sweet plates. Isn't the design adorable! Now, I know it isn't exactly proper to instruct a guest to do this, but run your finger over the design. The white underglaze was covered by this design and then the salmon color was applied. So, the white feels recessed.

These dishes were made by Harkerware.

So, do you like these cute little weave place mats and the vintage piece of linen (yes, it is just a piece of fabric). I picked them both up last year at a little 2nd hand store. The piece of fabric and the 2 placemats ran me .85 cents. I think they work well with the dishes.

Oh, I almost forgot the coffee!

You can't see it very good, but the little creamy white fruit compote dishes have raised grapes and vines design to them. The design is also in the inside. They were made in 1969. I have a set of 6 of them.

Let me get us some orange juice. Don't these vintage Pyrex carafes just take you back? I love using them.

I have my wonderful bargain square striped charger plate in the pretty sherbet colors (I got 2 of them for .08 cents each!!). On top of them I placed a pretty pink depression glass square plate.

Let's fill those pretty fruit dishes up with some peaches.

Can you smell those sweet rolls? Oh YUM! I think we are all ready to sit down for our breakfast. Just a little something simple this morning.

  1. So cute! Loving your new blog look too!

  2. Now I know how you made me fall in love with you so fast. You just wiggled your nose, and cast a spell on me.

  3. I love that tan cameo-ware...saw some in the same pattern but there were too many chips and stains so I passed on it. The tablecloth goes so well with the dishes.

  4. Hey Diann! I love it that your dishes were used on never know, you could have THE very set from the show! (they had to go somewhere!) lol
You, my friend, are more than welcome to move closer to me..I would LOVE to come over and help you organize, decorate, eat know, whatever! :) Just let me know when you get here!
Glad you liked my pantry...I'm SO glad I have it done...been putting it off forever. ( you can tell why from the BEFORE pictures!) ;-)
Hope you have a great day!
Hugs to you my sweet friend!

  5. I remember this tablescape since I love these Harkerware dishes. I had a plate in the green but alas only one so never used it. I love seeing my dishes on the old sitcoms. I Dream of Jeannie uses lots of Pyrex!

Glad you got the old background removed and the new look is so fresh! hugs, Linda

  6. thanx for sharing! you've made me want to watch these old sitcoms all day! Bewitched was always a favorite! If I could wiggle my nose, we'd be having those sweet rolls together right now! {and then, maybe go out and find some antique stores or thrift stores, to shop in for a bit!

  7. Diann, I love Samanthat's dishes! So, so pretty and they look great with the depression glass accents. I like the new look to your blog, too, Diann! This post was very interesting and I hadn't seen it the first time around so I'm glad you re-posted it.

  8. You did all that with just the twitch of your nose didn't you Diann:@) How fun, enjoy your famous dishes!

  9. Lovely, I'm your newest follower.

  10. I enjoyed your post about your vintage dishes.
You probably already know this, but Harkerware dishes were given as premiums (or gifts) at movies theatres and grocery stores at one time.
I post about a few pieces of Harkerware that I found at a thrift shop recently. Please stop by and check it out in the archives.

  11. Diann, I love the color of the dishes and that Samantha used them is delightful! ♥O

  12. This is great! It happens to me sometimes too. Love to see some of my collections in old sitcoms!

  13. How wonderful to have famous dishes and table set too! My daughter got tickled one day when I saw my tablecloth on Sesame Street and got excited.

  14. Diane, your blog looks very nice. I love your tablescape!!

  15. How fun! Since I'm a huge lover of old sitcoms, I'm going to be more observant to see what they're using. I did see some wall art on "My Three Sons" (my personal all time favorite show) that my mom had in our house growing up. She probably still has it somewhere, in fact.

I do like those salmon dishes! I thought by the picture that they would have a recessed feeling surface.

I'm glad you reposted this "Bewitching" table.

  16. How fun is this girl...I really LOVE it..Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria

  17. Diann, I am crazy about these pink dishes! They are so neat, and I like the design in the center. They go well with depression glass, too. You always find cool stuff. And I died laughing at the part of the "Beverly Hillbillies" I watched. I miss shows like this SO much. It really was cute, and I can't believe you spotted your dishes! lol! Just goes to show what a smart shopper you are!

    Happy Tablescape Thursday to you...

    Sheila :-)

  18. Diann, I am new follower and a new blogger. When I was growing up I ate out of these dishes. I do not know if my mom has them packed away but you can bet I am going to find out in the morning. Needless to say love the dishes.

  26. I stumbled on your blog and when I saw your retro salmon plates i jumped up and went to the cabinet...I recently purchased two yellow plates with flowers that are also harkerware. I have been eating off of them exclusively since i brought them home.

  27. Hi - I was googling Bewitched dishes and I came across your blog. I have almost a full set of those dishes. Plates, salad plates, cup and sauces, soup bowls and a serving dish and platter :) I love the colors.
