How is your Holiday Prep Coming Along? (Part 1)

Now that Halloween is over, you know that the time is going to fly by and the next thing we know, it will be 2011! YIKES!

The holidays can be the biggest stress time of the year for a lot of people. I know, I have had my share of years so frazzled that I just couldn't wait until the new year came along. And that is so sad. This is such a beautiful time of the year. But, it is also daunting and overwhelming in so many ways. I think time and money are the two biggest stressful factors during the holidays.

Organization really does seem to be the key. It helps big time with the stress of everything. Whether it is time or money, both can be handled a little easier with organization.

I read a lot of blogs and newsletters regarding money saving ideas, organization, preparedness etc. Some of the blogs I read, well in many ways, make me feel inferior to be truthful. I keep thinking that if I read them enough maybe some of that amazing "I have it all together" will rub off on me. I have gained some great tips that I have added to my life and have really helped me but, still, overall, I have way more chaos than I want or need.

Since money is a major problem, we don't even have a fixed income, I have to plan ahead in that area. I don't have a choice. I do a lot of things to supplement our income and our needs. They are all just little things, but they add up. I know a lot of you are struggling with money as well. Some more than others. But, that really doesn't matter, the issue is, money can always bring us stress.

I am going to attempt to organize my holidays in order to create a more peaceful and enjoyable holiday season. This is going to be an adventure of sorts. I thought I would share with you what I do to try to save time and money throughout the next 2 months. I don't expect any of you to try it along with me. Let's face, I am so not the person to follow when it comes to organization! LOL But, I thought if I post about what I am doing it will help me stay on track and give me a sense of accomplishment (yup, I need that!). Also, if it happens to encourage or help one or two of you out there...YAY Major bonus!!

So, what did I do this week regarding the holidays? I grabbed a large Rubbermaid container and started pulling together all the thrifted Christmas gifts that I bought throughout the summer at yard sales, flea markets, thrift stores, clearance sales and antique malls. I also wrote down each item I have gotten different people on my gift list. Now I can see exactly where I stand.

So, when you see a post titled "My Holiday Journey pt__" you may want to just skip reading it. I don't want to put pressure on anyone. But, if it is something you are interested in, please feel free to add something you have done to help ease the stress of the upcoming holidays!

I had thought of making this a weekly party until the first of the year but, I'm not sure if that would add stress to any one's life. "Oh no! Another party to join!". LOL

  1. I am glad I am not the only one who feels a tad inferior at times when reading blogs but I make an effort to be thrifty because I must and really it is a whole lot of fun. I applaud your fabulous attitude. hugs♥olive

  2. Diann I am with you all the way this year. Last year I was still in 'shock' from losing my job and did an OK Christmas thinking a new job was right around the corner...now I know it's not and so this year will take more planning to get it done on much less money! Thankfully I don't have lots and lots of people to buy gifts for. My kids who are grown (and always ask me not to get them much) and some friends. So I am with you on trying to plan ahead, stay organized and get it done and ENJOY it on a very small budget.

  3. I feel like I just put all the holiday decorations away. I don't plan to do as much this year, but I have said that the last several years also.
    Have a great week.

  4. Thank you Diann for following my new blog! Your name has been entered in the giveaway. I will enjoy your journal of holiday prep. I was just thinking this morning of finding the toys I bought last year on sale to kind of see where I am. I did start a list yesterday. hooray! Now I'm wishing I had done more of the bargain shopping throughout the year. Note to self- keep a Christmas list in purse year round. Sounds good anyway.

  5. Great idea! As you already saw I am trying to stay organized by planning ahead all the cleaning of what I will need. I hate getting caught in the last minute scrubbing of everything. I always make Christmas lists but try not to buy too much ahead of time because I end up finding something else for someone that I like better. This year the ticket might just be to stay out of the stores more as I narrow down the list. LOL!
