A "Transitional" Tablescape

Hi everyone!

Today's tablescape ( A LOT of pictures...just a warning! LOL) is kind of what I think of as a transitionally table because that is what September means to me. We are ending summer and autumn is peeking out at us here and there.

But, how to create and reflect this transition was an interesting challenge to me. I wanted summer colors on the table along with the warm earthy feel of autumn.

And then things just kind of start falling into place. And idea is sparked from the oddest things. What sparked this table? A gift from a wonderful blogging friend!

I know most of you already know this beautiful blogger from her blog In the Middle of Nowhere. That's right, I am talking about Mimi! By the way, you need to check out her gorgeous lush green tablescape today! Okay, what was I saying? Oh yeah, anyway, Mimi saw a post I had published several months ago where I showed a new thrifted tureen I just got. It had a ladle with it but, it was much too large for this tureen. Mimi said she thought she had one that would fit. Yippee! And she said she would send it to me.

Well, I received the box and knew who it was from however, it was a rather large box and I knew their were extra surprises in it! She had sent the ladle (which fits perfectly!) and a couple of other goodies! One of the surprise goodies was this set of flatware.

About a week before I got the box from Mimi, I had picked up this set clearanced at Walmart.

A set of 2 coral placemats and striped napkins. Originally $5.00 but, were half off. Hum, are you seeing a glimmer of a tablescape here?

And then later that week, I went thrifting and found this set of dishes.

You probably recognize them from the SA shopping trip I took y'all on back on this post. Let's see....blue and coral dishes....Oh, a tablescape is really coming together!

I thought the sky blue and the coral colors in the dishes, flatware and linens represented summer quite nicely. Time to scrounge around and come up with things that start to show the presence of autumn!

So, here we go!

I placed a natural wicker charger on the coral placemat and added a thick orange acrylic plate. (chargers clearanced from Walmart last year, acrylic plates clearanced at Family Dollar for .50 cents each)

Add the salad plate and large bowl of this new set of dishes. These dishes were never used. The price tags were still on the bottom. Each piece was bought individually from "World Bazzar". They are "Pagnossin Ironstone made in Treviso, Italy".

Pretty vintage stemmed sorbet glasses were added. These have a beautiful iridescent shimmer to them. I got them at an Estate sale.

A blue water goblet (clearanced at The Christmas Tree Shops) and vintage orange carnival-ish drinking glasses (flea market a couple of years ago) were added.

The matching cup and saucer along with the napkins and tortoise shell napkin rings (these were in a large bag of assorted goodies I got at a flea market).

And let's not forget the generous gift from Mimi which started this whole tablescape, the flatware!

Now, for the overall tablescape with all the accessories added. And remember, EVERYTHING on this table was either thrifted 2nd hand or clearance. Uh Oh! I just lied! The two little votive birds were full price at the Dollar Tree!

One of the salad plates, a vintage sunflower carnival glass bowl and a large grapevine sphere.

A pretty bread basket with a napkin and two votive holders.

Vintage brown and gold creamer and sugar on small china dishes.

Another dish with a pretty peach lusterware FireKing bowl.

A light blue metal cheese dome with a ceramic base on top of a diamond cut glass cakestand.

The little Dollar Tree candle holder birds.

Two finial candles.

Although they are both different, I think they work great together.

I just got this blue ceramic pitcher last night. I couldn't believe that it was the perfect pitcher to go with this tablescape and it was half off at $1.50! woohoo!

Gold rimmed glass dessert bowls.

With feathered sphere in them.

Okay, now random pictures.

Now some candlelight pictures.

Thank you Mimi!!

  33. Diann, I bought those very same napkins and placemats on clearance at WalMart! In fact, I picked up several colors of placemats to mix and match. I guess it's one of those "when you see it, you know" kinds of things! I've used my napkins for so many different occasions... and you've used yours in a great "between seasons" tablescape. Nice job -- and beautiful candlelight pics!
