A Thriftin’ we will go, a Thriftin’ we will go, Hi Ho the ….

Well, it was a very fun and fruitful thrifting holiday weekend for us. We got awesome deals, fun things for us, fun things for Christmas presents, birthday presents and items to fix up and sell.

Here is a couple of pictures of our truck after our thrifting adventures. Not too bad. LOL I have seen it worse. Of course, the backseat of the cab is totally full as well.

The Princess really made out like a bandit this weekend. she got a new wagon, dishwasher, plastic food and plates, blocks, stuffed animals, games, a bell, a new winter coat and a bunch of new winter clothes. And several things I can't remember. We were very excited to find the winter clothes items! It seemed like every garage/yard sale we stopped at, the person hosting the sale gave her some item of her choosing for free.

I’ll tell you what, I am so grateful for garage/yard sales and all the kids clothes that are in great shape and priced so reasonably. It feels like every time I turn around, the princess is in a new size.  Being on such a tight limited budget, picking up clothes for her at the yard sales has been a blessing! Even the thrift stores like Salvation Army or St. Vinny’s are getting so out of this world expensive for kids clothes. I could pretty much buy them new at the original store for the prices they are asking. And I find that a real shame.

Okay, I’ll shut up about that issue now. LOL

I thought I would show you a few of the red and whites I found. I still have not taken pictures of even 2/3's of the stuff we got yet. That is going to take some serious time.

I got this chair at a barn sale. It has no broken pieces. Just needing a redo. But, I kind of like the red and green fabric on the seat. I think I might try to clean it and see how it comes out.

I don’t know if you can read the green sticker price but, it was $1.00!

I already have one of these small tureens but, for the bargain price I got it. Unfortunately, it didn’t have the ladle with it. I like the pumpkin design and thought it was perfect for Fall.

Also from the barn sale, I bought this fun vintage trivet. It is red and pink tiles. The woman had about 5 of these. I got this one along with a smaller blue one.  I like the handles on it so you can take it to the table and just set it down.

A set of 4 small jars with grape designs. I am not sure what I am going to use these for, but I thought they were cute.

One lonely Homer Laughlin china mug sat on a “freebie” table. I decided to give it a good home!  This is one of the thick restaurant or rail road dishes.

Well, there are a few of my red and whites. I have lots more to show you over the next little while.

  1. You really did find a ton of treasures. I can't wait to see them all. I do agree, that it seems like some of the prices at GW are getting really expensive. Too bad. Hugs, Marty

  9. Fun finds! I just saw one plate of that HL pattern at my Sal Army! I have to laugh because I just said to Ma "it seems that the Sal Army brought in someone to price things..." I'd rather have $1.50 in the register than $5 sitting on the shelf any day!

  11. My goodwill seems to be very expensive. I can buy moist things at WalMart for the price they are asking. Not a lot of good thrift stores near me.

  17. Wow! You got a haul! Love that chair. I know what you mean about Sal Army and St.Vinc. and GW. Around here they have always been a little high, but then again it depends on what part of town you go to. The ones in places like small town Ohio are quite reasonable. Here in the Cincy area new GW opened in an up in an area where the homes go anywhere from $300,000 to $1 mil and the prices are just shy of retail. We have to laugh at the Jags, Caddies, and BMW's in the parking lots of all the Thrift store around town..that's why the $$$ are raising. There is one in an area that all the ladies from a more affluent neighborhood drop off designer formal gowns as a tax write-off cause they can only wear them once. It's the best kept secret in town, but it's a hoot at prom time to see all the girls there to get thier dresses.
This is why when you say get something from GW for a few .50 or $1 I just gawk cause that don't happen in this area. I have seen some things you've paid for be triple price here.
Oh well, I guess that's why we love the hunt.

  21. I figure that after yard sale season when the competition is all tucked away for the winter thrift stores raise prices because they have a larger audience. However the worse the economy gets and the more people use the shops, those prices stay high. Some try to explain that more money is needed to "help those less fortunate," but what about the people who can't afford to pay NEW prices? If they could they'd be shopping elsewhere. Even resellers can't pay the kind of prices I have been seeing lately. (Altho an $8 pair of jeans is still less than most retail stores.)

Great buy on the chair. Would have been nice to find a pair.
    Having fun discovering your loot.

  23. OH WOW! IT LOOKS LIKE YOU HAD A GREAT WEEKEND! I LOVE GARAGE SALES AND THRIFTING. YOU GOT LOTS OF GOOD STUFF!

  24. Well, you got some real deals! How fun. I agree with you about the prices. At our GW it's always kind of a shock when I see what they are asking for dishes, etc. I don't want to buy used for the same price as new! Oh well, I don't need anything else in this house!!
Thanks for linking up this week. Have a good week.
