"The Miracle Party"

This is a long post and a way more personal post than I normally do. So, I thought I would forewarn you in advance. LOL

Today is a very special party in blogland. It is a Miracle Party!

I am sure most of you already know Miss Kelee from The Katillac Shack, she is one truly amazing woman! She is celebrating the makeover of Colette's home. Kelee is touching cancer patients lives all over this country through her amazing decorating and design skills.

She did an awe inspiring makeover for Colette. Here is a little blip of how it started:

Colette Gauthier was suffering with cancer. She had moved into a tiny and dismal rental home. And, she was almost out of hope.
I decided to take a crew up to Michigan, in the middle of last winter, to create a healing room in which she could recover. Friends and volunteers became "Design Angels." A miracle resulted. The story is featured in the September issue of Guideposts Magazine.

After you leave here, I sure hope you will stop by Kelee's blog. Her foundation is donating $1.00 for every comment left on her post about The Miracle Party!! Read about how you can make a big change in someones life in the future, and earn more money for this great cause by just visiting a few other blogs and leaving comments.

Kelee has a wonderful video on her blog showing this makeover. Go check it out.

Since today is a special day, we are sharing special pinks. So, here is mine.

We were blessed with our Little Princess when she was 7 weeks old. She is actually our granddaughter but, since she does not know any other parents, we simply are Mama & Papa. She couldn't be more my little girl if she tried!. I do not know why the Lord chose this path for her life and ours, but I will do everything possible to make it the happiest and best life I can possibly provide.

I never knew there was such a large empty space in my heart just waiting for this little girl to enter it and take it over. I thank God everyday for the gift of her.

When she came to us, we were so not prepared and were in the middle of a major crisis. Troy was just healing from his last surgery (the 7th one) on his leg from a Worker's comp injury. We also had just been informed that Worker's Comp was not going to continue the claim, therefore no further checks or medical coverage, and he no longer had a job with them when he, if ever, healed. I had just discovered that my spine is riddled with arthritis and was in physical therapy. Then the company I worked for lost their contract and I was out of a job. Sadly, these are only a few of the things that were happening in our life at the time. Several other unpleasant (I am being very polite here) events were also happening at this time. It truly was a frightening time in our lives.

So, when all of a sudden, we realized that we were going to be parents of this amazing little infant, we needed to convert our spare bedroom which was an office/storage/craft/tool shed, into a little girls room. We had just lost all of our income and both were physically in a lot of pain.

But, an amazing thing happened. Prayers were answered. God blessed us once again and gave us strength when we thought we had none. He guided us to alternative ways to earn a little extra money here and there. He provided us with the Grace to accept help from our family and amazing friends.

It was just what we needed. It gave us a fun focus, creating a little girl's bedroom from nothing.

Although her room is not "designer" or perfect or something out of a beautiful magazine, it makes me smile and the princess loves it. We are constantly playing around in there and changing this or that. But, at the time, when Troy and I were at our very lowest and didn't think we would be able to do anything, we were gifted with pulling together something that made us realize we have so much more to give. And that this little person is what took us over the edge and brought us back stronger and happier than we could have imagined.

I thank our Dear Lord, friends and family for helping us get through a very hard time.

Okay, I didn't plan on sharing that much. LOL And I am sure you didn't want to read that much! But Miss Kelee has a way of bringing out our life stories and sharing them with others.

What made me decide to post about this in the first place is, the princess is without a doubt, the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me and my own personal miracle. And, she is growing up. Even though she is only 2.5 years old, the changes are exciting and kind of sad to me.

One of those changes and therefore reasons, I am showing some of these old pictures (from a different blog of mine) is because our little girl is turning into a "big girl". We just took down her crib because she has been sleeping in a big girl bed for awhile now. Is it normal to feel a twinge of sadness seeing the crib go away? Now my little girl looks so tiny sleeping in a big bed surrounded by her stuffed friends. Now don't get me wrong, I would rather make up a regular bed any day of the week than a crib! Trying to bend over the sides and put on the crib sheets that never really fit was killing my back.

So, here is a little part of her room.

The pink paint had been an oops can from Home Depot. I also had a can of purple paint that was a freebie from a Glidden promotion. So, that set the theme colors for the room. I wanted it fun, bright, cheery and girly.

You will note from the pictures that this was done in 2008. I now see all you amazing "Mommy bloggers" and the incredible rooms you create for your children. At this time, I really did not have any resources or time to work with.

My number one goal was to make this room HAPPY! I didn't do any beautiful designer look, I just gathered things that the princess smiled or giggled over. That was all that mattered to me. Yup, I took her with me thrifting and showed her different items. If she smiled and her face lit up, it was added to the room!

In one corner of the room Troy had built a very sturdy tool corner. It worked great for hanging his tools and storing tool stuff and a little work bench area. However, this thing would be a serious pain to take down, although we will eventually. So, after the decision was made to leave it up, I got the pleasure of trying to make it fit into a little girls room. It was a catch-all area. Not to mention, I keep my Ebay books and supplies under the workbench area. Here are some before and after shots (and yes, that is a working slot machine on the bench area! LOL One of Troy's dumpster dive finds. He brought it home, took it apart, cleaned it up and fixed a couple of things and now he has a working slot machine...go figure):

And now we have................this :)
The breakdown of the cost of this corner is as follows:

Paint for walls & shelves = .50

Piece of 1x8x10 cut into 4 pieces = $7.48

8 peg hooks = FREE (reimbursed from secret shop)

10 stuffed animals = $5.00 (bought at thrift store for 50 cents each and washed at home)

2 spools of diamond ribbon = $1.00 (around the shelves, bought @ Michael's clearanced

2 spools of "ABC" ribbon = .50 (around the bench top. Bought at Biglot clearanced)

4 bags of stuffed little pillows = $2.00 (they are the hanging things. Bought clearanced @ Michael's)

10 little wooden plaques = $2.50 (made a double sided hanging ornament out of 6 of them. The other's are just on the wall. Clearanced @ Michael's)

4 curtain panels & 2 valances = .99 (used one half of them on this project. Bought @ thrift store)

White picture frame = $2.50 (bought @ thrift store, brand new, still in the Hallmark box)

Glittery bright pink picture frame = .50 (bought @ Target as a "decorate it yourself" kit. I made this with the princess. She pointed where each stickers should go and then we both had a blast with the glitter glue)

Big stuffed bunny on the floor = .99 (thrift store, still had the price tags on it)

8 small wooden ornaments = $2.00 (around the bench top. Bought @ Michael's clearanced)

Total cost: $25.96

I hope I didn't totally bore you with this post! I really hope you visit the following Miracle party hostesses and leave a comment at each. Each comment at these blogs will be a $1.00 earned toward providing another special person with a chance for a makeover!

I am so moved by your personal story. Choked-up. What a miracle and joy this little sweetheart is...and how lucky she is to have you.

Your room makeover is just so meaningful. pretty, fun, joyful and authentic. By your "playing around" with the space you are teaching a lesson she will use all her life and be empowered by:

"I saw my mama and papa use what they had and create a world of goodness and joy. They created something special using the Creator's ideas and love! I now know I can make a life--and life is mine to create. I don't need a lot of money, I have what is needed to create the life of my dreams!"

Thank-you for being a part of The Miracle Team. I am grateful!

    love you!

  21. Great story! And I love baby toes!!! They always make me happy! God does bless us!
