Well here it is everyone! The Tablescaper has invited all of us to join her today for her party "Where do you keep it all?"
I have had a lot of people asking me that exact question. I bet most of the bloggers that enjoy tablescaping get asked this question. So, today is the big reveal where we show it all. Yikes! LOL
I have to tell you right off the bat (just keeping it real) that I have quite a few more boxes of dishes, glassware, odds and ends and silver that I have not put away yet. I had really hoped to have it all put away but, life decided I had other things to do. LOL
I also have another dresser (a freebie) that is filled with candles and flowers for decorating that I totally forgot to take pictures of. So, maybe I will have to do another post sometime to show you more updated pictures.
Okay, lets start with linens. I have 2 dresser, both freebie curbside pickups, filled with linens. And I have some that I didn't show that are hanging up in the closet because for whatever reason, they don't fit or fold up very easily.
I apologize for some of the pictures being blurry, but to be honest I totally forgot today was this party and I was racing around taking pictures. That would also be why a lot of things are still messy. i didn't get a chance to really "prettify" before I took pictures. Also, there is a LOT of pictures here.
Alrighty, here we go.....

I originally had everything color coordinated but, as you can see, i didn't do a very good job of keeping up with that!

Okay, now the BIG question, where do I keep all my dishes and tablescaping pretties. Well, I have a "dish shed". Remember, I live in a townhouse so, my hubby gave up the shed for me to store my dishes. It probably shouldn't be called that because I also have a lot of boxes of indoor holiday stuff and misc. Things like hot plates, buffet serving pieces, baskets, crafts, to be done projects, you get the idea. Also, all of my different holiday dishes are boxed up and stored in here. My shed isn't real big but, it works. Not that I couldn't use twice this space! I also buy a lot of just 2 of things instead of full sets. LOL Troy built all the shelving in here from freebie lumber. We are talking freebie Craigslist and dumpster diving. See, we keep things as thrifty as possible here! I know I should have painting the shelves way back when he built them, but I was to impatient and wanted to put my dishes up. So, they still just raw wood.
I do a pretty good job at keeping my dishes color organized. If I didn't, I would have a hard time of it and get too frustrated trying to put together a tablescape. I REALLY have a low patience level and attention span. LOL
Like I said earlier, I still have quite a few boxes to put away. This is a small stack of just charger plates.

This shows the ends of the "white shelf, "The Blue shelf" and Some of my "Silver shelf"

Let's start with the left side with the whites and blues. Y'all know by now that I have a lot of blue and white dishes. Wow, doing this post feels like baring my soul LOL

The blue and white shelves kind of wrap around on the back wall as well.

Now continuing on the back wall, bottom shelf next to the blue dishes is the green shelf.

On the right hand side bottom shelf we go from green to brown and yellow. I do not have nearly enough yellow. But, I have complained about that before. LOL

Going back to the left wall and the second shelf, we start with the whites.

Whites also wrap around the back wall.

Finishing off that shelf is just a little bit of black and gray. Another color sorely lacking in my dish collection.

Next up as we continue on the second shelf is glass and crystal (clear).

This is just a few odds and ends acrylic/plastic pieces. I have a huge Rubbermaid storage container with most of my acrylics. Plus I have a ton at our trailer.

Now up to the third shelf. This side (above the glass & crystal) are my glassware that have designs and colors to them. You will notice in one picture a vacant line of space. That is where this week's tablescape glassware fits. See, sometimes I really am organized! LOL As you have seen from other pictures, I try to keep colored glasses with the matching color dishes.

Next is pink/redish dishes.

These next pictures are some sets of rose and white dishes I have plus the odds and ends pieces that I may only have 2 or 3 of the set.

These are more odds and ends and some of my teacups and saucers. I have a storage box of other teacups and saucers and of course the 50 that I have shown you that are displayed here in the house.

Okay, top shelf. A lot of my amber glass, carnival glass, carafes, candlesticks and other odds and ends.

On the floor, I keep such things as baskets, trays, boxes of flatware, or just some pieces that are too big for shelves. Plus all my "to be re-done" projects are all loaded down there.

A couple of overview pictures.

Last Fall I told you about a friend of mine giving me an old table and chair set. Well, even though it is a little awkward to move around in the shed with the table in it, it is super handy. I can pull different dishes, glasses and sccessories off the shelf and kind of do a quick mock up of a tablescape and see what works and what doesn't before I bring them in the house.

Well, now the question is answered! I'll have to do a follow up post about the things I didn't show you. Most of my tureens are used for decorating so, that is where they all are and I have some dishes as well that I use for decorating. other than that, I only keep our everyday stuff in the house. Oops. except what is in my small china cabinet.
I hope you enjoyed this tour through my dish and linen world! And about 95% of what I have just shown you are thrift finds. I have bought very few things brand new.

That is a lot of dishes! :) I am amazed at the amount of dishes all you bloggers have. I think you are the first one participating that has a separate building to store your collection in. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining the party.
ReplyDeleteThat dish shed is amazing!!! I love to organize by color too. It seems to be the only way to do it and continue to be somewhat organized.

How sweet of your hubby to give you the shed........I keep trying to pull that off with my hubby on the outside shed..........it ain't workin..........he;s gotta have a place for his toys......LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm coming to visit the dish shed! I mean it! I saw so much I love(of course). I am glad you showed the table because I know how much time it takes me to put it together, not like it, change it, tweak it, love it/hate it, tweak it some more...well you get the idea and the vision of you running back and forth was getting me short of breath! So I'm glad you have the table. Oh and of course you already know this, but you have the greatest hubby! A shed for your dishes! :)
ReplyDeleteMy goodness Diann! Now I know where to go when I need some dishes! I will not tell you which ones I have matches to! Troy is a rare gem I tell ya! Not too many of the men I know, or have known, would willingly give up their shed for dishes!
ReplyDelete~ Tracy
Oh my ...you have a dish warehouse. Your husband must be a saint to let you take the shed and fill it with your treasures..
ReplyDeleteDiann, you're a braver woman than I!!! I laughed so hard last night going through these participants. I kept yelling for Ray to PROVE I'm not the only insane person who can seat 200 people! LOL

ReplyDeleteHmmm.., Now if if I could just get my hubby to do the same for me!..,Hehe
Well at least he builds shelves and alas whereas he is a painted wood affectionado and then some, he insists that if I will not agree to wait till my shelves are painted, he won't build them.., Oh well; I do love his shelves!
My hubby is a sweetie however, yet how amazingly thoughtful of yours to give up the shed AND not mind if the shelves are painted as well!..,
Thanks for sharing, as well as for using your fab dishes to grace the pages of my Tuesday and Wednesday blog parties; it's so much fun to see your stash from whence your creations arise!!

Oh how wonderful - a dish shed! It looks like a wonderful kitchen store - a store where I would love to shop! You have it all beautifully organized, and oh, I saw some beautiful dishes and linens in these photos. After I did my post, I thought about that I should have mentioned that the only dishes that were not from an estate sale or a "going out of business" sale are the ones we received as wedding gifts. It's just hard to pass up dishes when they are a bargain! laurie
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, Diann, that is a fabulous collection, and great shelves, too.
ReplyDeleteI love your storage, Diann. The open shelves make it easy to find everything. The table actually is very handy for laying dishes temporarily when you are pulling out some. Very organized and you have a lot too!...Christine
ReplyDeleteOMigosh is there any room for people,LOL?
ReplyDeleteYou are efficient, organized, and RICH! Rich in storage and dishes and accessories. What a treasure trove of table ware!Good thing you got good deals and thrift store bargains, you are set for , well, table settings!I love seeing how people store tableware, I am needing good ideas for this myself.
ReplyDeleteDiann,
ReplyDeleteOMG!! OMG!!!
I don't think I have ever seen so many dishes and linens and glassware belonging to one person!!
It is all fabulous!!
And how organized you are!!
We rent a storage shed as we live in a townhouse too with no basement.
My decorations esp. Christmas are starting to take it over. I showed my hubby this and he now vows he will be quiet about all my decorations!!! LOL!!!!

Wow I do love your system.. That is great you have a place to keep everything.. I love the table you have for mock ups. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteLove it, what an amazing collection! I love seeing that people are sicker than I am!!!:)
ReplyDeleteWow, I was afraid I was getting too many dishes!!! I don't have a drop in the bucket compared to any of you people!! But I can see I'd better plan ahead and have an organizational plan before it gets out of hand!!!
ReplyDeleteYour storage is so organized -- what a great place! And the table in the middle is the perfect thing. I feel like I'm always balancing dishes with one hand and removing them with another !!
ReplyDeleteWowza, now that is organization. I remember you doing your linen chest. lol
ReplyDeleteMan O man I was feeling guilty over having two hutches full of dishes and one chest of drawers and closet full linens but not any more. WoW! That's a lot of dishes.~Ames
