I ended up at a little thrift store that I check out frequently. Lots of fun stuff, but I was okay not buying anything. And then I rounded the corner and saw a teapot. Now we know I love teacups and teapots but, this wasn't one of those beautiful delicate kind of teapots. It is more of a coffee pot. Normally I could walk away from that even though I like different coffee pots as well. This was just a retro harvest gold colored pot. No biggie right? Wrongo!
Over a year ago, I bought these two cups with matching little bowls and dessert plates at a flea market. I have used them in tablescapes in the past.

Now check out the tea/coffee pot!

Perfect match!

Now, how much is it? $2.00!!!! OMG, I HAVE to get this teapot!! I plop down on a chair that is for sale and start emptying my purse on the little side table also for sale. I just know I have change at the bottom of my purse. Please let it be $2.00 worth!! I searched and search. I shook out everything that was in my purse in hopes that a little coin might have gotten caught in them. Oh no! Only $1.13!
I take the teapot up to the counter and tell the sales girl I want this but, I have to run out to the truck. The ashtray, there is always change in there! I was hoping for more than .27 cents! Under the mats, around the floor, in the seats I come up with another .36 cents. I really need to start throwing more change around in my truck!!
I take my total of $1.76 to the register. I told the woman that was I could come up with. If she would just hold the teapot and I will be back within the hour for the rest. She just laughed and said the price just dropped to $1.76! LOL

Sorry about the pillows in the background. Apparently, according to the princess, it is a much needed bridge from one end of the couch to the other.
So, now I have a nice little set. And that is my thrifty treasure to share with you all today!
Now go and check out what others are showing today at:

Great find! I can just see myself hunting to come up with the change as well -- got a giggle over that one!
ReplyDeletePerfect!! What a cute set now. See patience pays off : ))
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Diann, you really gave me a chuckle. And you know what? I saw those very same dishes at the Goodwill a couple of weeks ago. I had put them in my cart and walked around with it, then I put them back :-( I thought they would be so pretty for a Christmas table. But alas I let them go. Enjoy your tea pot! It was worth the price :-)

Loved that story! Thanks for sharing. Someone was looking out for you! Lol!
ReplyDeleteWhat a funny little story! OMG I could never go out without money! I keep a bag of change in my car - who knows when I need parking meter money or thrifting cash?! (that sucker is heavy & must have $20.00 or so in it)
ReplyDeleteGlad you got your $1.76 bargain, Diann!!!
:-) Sue
You were very brave to go with NO money in your purse. So happy you found the little pot to match your cups. It's darling. Great price too.
ReplyDeleteI love to shop thrift stores too.

ReplyDeleteYou made me laugh, I was wondering you turning the bag and look for coins in the car.
The ashtray of your car is also a piggy bank, I always turn to him.
But you really needed this pot, it's the perfect match for the cups.
Congratulations on the purchase, even without portfolio and without credit card ... it worked!

Moral of the story - Keep change in the car! (a lesson for me, I'll put some there right now!)
ReplyDeleteDiann, thanks for linking up to Treasures and Trinkets....even thought, this week there's not a lot to link up to! :-) This has been the craziest week of my life! I have cleaned like a mad woman....Monday alone, I cleaned 14 hours!! The funny thing is, I'm a loon about a clean house, so it really wasn't that dirty.....I'm just crazy! lol You know what the bad thing is......I have about 50 people coming Saturday afternoon, so it'll all be trashed by Saturday night! sigh...oh well, my son is worth it all!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you found the coffee pot to go with your cups...I LOVE it even MORE that the sales lady dropped the price to $1.76! (next time put your debit card in your purse...JUST in case!) :)
Have a great weekend my friend and thanks again for linking something up to my empty little post! :)
