Linens and Silver~A Couple of MY Favs!

Man, this has been a busy week for us! I am so far behind in everything. We have had a ton of secret shops and audits to do this week. The weather has been super funky! Monday and Tuesday we had 80+ degree weather. Then BAM! Wednesday comes along and it storms all day with tempertures dropping into the low 50's. By Thursday we were in the mid 30's. I was so surprised that the rain did not turn to snow!

Okay, enough whining, well, not really but, I just won't type out all the words that are coming out of my mouth right now. Lucky you! Unlucky Troy! LOL

Well, I gave you a couple of glimpses last week as to what I was going to show you this week. One of them was this pretty tablecloth I just got at a flea market. It was $2.00. I love the details!

I planned on showing it beautifully displayed on our dining room table. I know, crazy idea huh? But, right now that would entail a massive dumping of bills, paperwork and tax crap...stuff! So, just imagine this lovely tablecloth spread out on a beautifully decorated and stunningly clean table in an extraordinary beautiful dining room. Hey, I figure if your going to "imagine" anyway, why not imagine somewhere other than my real dining room!

And while you are "imagining" things, please feel free to imagine I actually prepared ahead of time for this post and washed and ironed this pretty table cloth! Because, of course we all know, that is what I normally do! Hey! Hush you! You never know, there might be someone that stops by here for the first time! We wouldn't want to destroy the illusion!

This tablecloth is actually a round table topper.

Isn't that pretty?

Next is this large silver plated serving dish.

I'm not sure what it was originally used for. Any ideas anyone?

Oh, look! I even polished part of it to show you how beautiful it is going to be .....some day! :)

And this little dish was a recent find at Salvation Army. It is silver plated as well and came with the little spoon. It was sticker priced at $2.99 but, it was 50% off (yellow sticker day) so, I got it for $1.49.

Due to technical difficulties experienced by managament, there will not be a preview of next weeks episode.

Yeah, in other words, I got no clue!

Okay, now head over to Laurie's place and check out what everyone is is showing for A Few of My Favorite Things Friday!

And on Sunday I will be linking this to Beth's party Silver Sunday! Unless of course, I find myself with a couple gazillion free hours with nothing to do and the energy of a two year old and create a whole separate post. Let's not hold our breath everyone!

  1. First off, I LOVE that cloth- LOVE, LOVE it! Secondly, I have that same silver dish. It actually is the carrier for a round glass pyrex type baking dish that fits inside. You bake in the dish and then place it in the silver part to serve- I'll see if I can get a pic later. I'm thinking maybe that cut out silver piece could also hold a glass insert?

  3. Diann,

You are too funny! Cute post.

Your new serving dish looks like part of a chafing dish set. I have one very similar. It has a footed base with a center for holding oil (now use sterno) which the server sets on and then a lid to cover the server. I have also seen what Pattie is talking about. Regardless as to what its original purpose was, I am sure you will come up with something very interesting to give it a new purpose.

  7. Oh Diann, you are too funny! I feel like an idiot, sitting in front of this monitor, laughing out loud, but that's what your commentary did to me. What a gorgeous tablecloth! I've never seen anything like that - so unique. Your silver pieces are pretty. Aren't we glad that tarnished is "in"? Hasn't this weather been crazy? I had to get my flannel jammies back out! Thank you so much for linking this fun post to Favorite Things. laurie

  13. I think Pattie is right -- the silver pieces originally probably had glass liners. I LOVE the look of the big one -- it's porringer-like handles are beautiful.
Lovely tablecloth, too! Even if it is not ironed (I don't OWN an iron right now--my daughter took it, bless her heart.)

  15. What pretty silver pieces you've shared! I've got the exact same dish as you in your first picture. You have the bottom part of what was a covered casserole. It holds a large round Pyrex bowl for veggies. I got mine in 1974 as a wedding present. Love your little GW piece and am sure it will shine up nicely!

Come visit my silver when you get a chance!

  16. Great silver finds! I love the detailed handles on the first piece. I see above that Stephanie says it was part of a covered casserole. Lovely just the way it is! The GW find was a steal. Glad these found their way to your home.
