Cleaning Windows ~ Oh Yippee Skippy!

Okay, so maybe not really “Yippee Skippy”! LOL But, since we have had some decent days around here, I decided to tackle this chore.

I must confess, I used to clean the inside of the windows every two weeks. I was such a good little homemaker! I have no idea what happen to that homemaker. Oh wait, I remember now! Hubby got injured and is always home and a two year old entered the picture. Oh yeah, phew! I have good valid excuses! (wondering if I am convincing enough in my excuses?)

Let’s see, when did I last clean the inside of the windows? Hummm, okay, for sure at Christmas because window clings won’t cling on dirt. Okay, then for Valentine’s day…nope, no window clings with cute hearts. Okay St. Paddy’s……nope.  Well, let’s just move along shall we. Does it matter when the last time I cleaned them, nah, cuz I’m cleaning them now.

I m make my own window cleaner. I have for about 100 years now.  It’s easy and super cheap (2 of my favorite things!)

empty spray bottle check
dish detergent check
water check
vinegar check

That’s it. Fill spray bottle  about 3/4 with water, add 1/4 cup of white vinegar and 1 tablespoon of dish detergent. Shake.

Or you can use rubbing alcohol.

I know a lot of people use old newspapers to clean the windows. And I have done that too and it works great. but, I just can’t stand all the printers ink on my hand. So, I use those microfiber cloths. I get them cheap at the dollar store and I reuse them.

Of course, you can’t  just clean the windows, you have to clean the window frame and the window sill. Man, no wonder I stopped doing….er…I mean, I never have time to do this.

So, that’s what I am tackling today. How about you?

  1. Our windows look HORRIBLE right now. It's Carolina Crud season- pine pollen. In about a month when it goes away, we'll have to power wash the siding and do the windows. I'll probably start the insides in a couple of weeks

  2. Glad I don't have to clean windows - we pay the cleaners to do them once a fortnight whether they need doing or not.

  5. Once I get started it's not so bad. It's just that initial getting my rear in gear to do much of anything besides work..and then it just all kinda overpowers me. Ah well..soon,very soon I will begin.
