Thrifty Valentine Ideas

We left our little skinny tree that sits in our dining room at Christmas up.  I thought it would be fun to decorate for different holidays. Naturally, Valentines Day is next. My goal was to spend little to no money decorating this tree. Time to get thrifty and scrounge around my scrapbooking supplies, craft supplies and sewing stuff. And that is exactly what I have been doing. The only thing I have on the tree so far is a string of lights and a string of pink beads. I am working on little Valentine projects to add to the tree. And this is one of them.

Projects 1-10 023

We have several of these little tin buckets from Logan’s Roadhouse Restaurant. They come with little mini desserts (3 in an order). They are so cute that I wanted to keep them but, really had no plans for them.

Projects 1-10 020So, I decided to turn them into little candy bucket tealight holders to hang on the tree. I bought a bag of the large conversation hearts. BTW, have you read the conversation hearts lately? “Tweet Me”, “Text Me”??? I am so old! LOL

I had some ribbon and a glue gun and lets just say, I played. This is no elegant, designer, Ooh La La project. Think “Arts and Crafts” Day at school.  Just fun, thrifty and easy.

I just went random with gluing the hearts. No two buckets are the same.

Projects 1-10 030Sorry the pics are a bit blurry. I think they look cute hanging from the tree. And they will look sweet when the tealights are lit.

Projects 1-10 032I think they turned out adorable. And I had fun playing!

Sorry about all the weird placement of pics and watermarks everywhere but, I am trying to “expand my techno skills” LOL

  1. Love the tree...isn't it neat to "go shopping" in your own house. Years ago I would always donate or throw away anything I didn't use like immediately (got that from my Mom). Finally I realized that saving some things for future projects was really a thrifty idea. The trick is to keep it all organized so that when an idea strikes you can find what you are looking for!
Love this blog, thank you - thank you

  3. Great idea and so cute. I thought of leaving up my white tree and decorating for each season but didn't. May have to rethink that!
