Christmas Decorating - Elegant or Whimsical?

Whimsical?

Elegant?

If you are like me, you have been visiting a lot of blogs lately and "Ooohing and Ahhhhing" at all the beautiful holiday decorating everyone has done this year. Some are decorated in such divine elegance while others are decked out in fun whimsical decor. Which are you? Or are you like me and want to "eat my cake and have it too"?

I love the grand elegant look of decorating and I did a bit of that on a smaller scale in our dining room. The bathroom is all about the sparkle and the living room is fun, silly, bright and cheery.

I grew up with bright and cheery and since I had the very best childhood anyone could possibly have, I can't and won't ever give that up. My mom still decks out her house with lots of lights, tinsel, and silly fun decorations. And yes, I still walk into her home and become a little girl all over again! I love it and it would make me very sad if she suddenly changed her way of decorating and went with a simple elegant theme. My mom does everything "over the top" and I love that about her!!

As I have gotten older, I have wanted to add a little bit more of the elegant look to my home. Since I don't have a big beautiful house with a formal dining room, grand foyer and formal living room, I chose our little dining room. We have a Christmas dinner tradition of a very elaborate dinner here every year, so I thought this is the perfect room to infuse a little elegance.

But, completely give up the silly, bright whimsical? NEVER! That is the little kid in me who is filled with awesome childhood memories of great Christmas'! Not too mention, I now have a 2 year old and I want so much for her to have fun and happy memories of bright, silly and fun decorations.

So, just a future warning, when I get a house and you walk into the foyer and it is all pretty and elegant, don't be surprised when you turn the corner and are hit with bright, silly and fun Christmas decorations!

Because, quite honestly, I believe in Eating my Cake and having it too and if all else fails, I will just bake another cake!!

Hope you all are having lots of fun and little to no stress! Enjoy the season!!

Hugs to y'all!
