Trash Pickin' - Dresser

Today is Second Time Around at Diane's blog, "A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words". Drop by and check out all the other finds for the day!

And I would like to introduce you to a blog that is new to me called, "The Thrifty Home" hosted by Jen. She has a paty linkup on Wednesdays called Penny Pinching Party. I am also joining this thrifty party!

Last night Troy went over to my parents house to work in my dad's garage. The Princess and I went and visited my brother. After our visit we headed over to my mom's house to see how Troy was doing. He was ready to finish up for the evening. It was about 8:00 last night and it was raining pretty good. Well, on the way home I saw a glimpse of a dresser sitting out in someones trash. I couldn't tell what shape it was in and because of the car right on my bumper, I couldn't stop safely and pull over. I knew Troy was a few cars behind me so I called me and asked if he saw the dresser on the side of the road. He was already pulled over at it! LOL He said that someone else also pulled over. Troy got out and looked at it and told me it looked like it was in good shape. The other person pulled away. So, he loaded it up and brought it home We figured if we didn't need or want it, we know a couple of people looking for dressers.

When we looked at it, it looked in good shape. Good solid oak on the outside. Dovetailed drawers. And the construction was really good. The only thing wrong with it is one of the handles needs a screw and one of the drawer glides needs 2 screws put back in. It obviously needs some cleaning up and TLC and I will probably redo it at sometime in the future, but for right now it is in decent enough shape to use as is. I plan to use it for my table linens.

Here is our trash picked dresser......

  2. THAT'S what I need for my table linens!
My china hutch is so packed, stuff falls out on the floor every time I open the doors.

    Keeping my eyes peeled!

  3. I never see things on the side of the road and I do a lot of driving! What a great find. I love how you've "trained" your husband to look for roadside items too! You guys make a great team....you be the lookout and he can swoop in and grab it!
    Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

  4. We would have so much fun together. Look around my blog I just rehab'd 2 roadkill rescue dressers, they are the best. I can't wait to see what you do with this one. I love that I have all that extra storage now.
