Some Thrifty Finds at Antique Malls

Last week while we were up at our trailer closing it down for the winter, I just had to go out for one last day of adventuring in this little community. I found a couple new thrift stores and a couple of Antique Malls.

I generally just do a lot of drooling at the antique stores because most of the beautiful things I see are WAY out of my budget! But, if you have a lot of time and really browse around, you can find a few little bargain treasures here and there. A lot of the vendors are really hurting for sales these days because like me, most people around don't have a lot of "play" money. I was able to find some things that were 50% off. Still, I couldn't buy the "Ooh la la" stuff (That's technical terminology in the world of antique buying dontcha know! LOL). But, I did find a few treasures.

I got these 2 small bowls for $1.50 (for the 2 of them). I was excited about these because back in the early Spring I found a platter in the same design and bought it.

Don't you think these are a fairly nice match (the floral design, not the gold design around the edges) to the dishes I bought that were the same ones my grandparents had? I posted about them HERE. Either way, I think I am gathering a nice mix and match set that kind of flow together in this pattern.

Close up of the gold design around the rim.

I have also been keeping my eye out for some simple yet pretty plain white saucers. I spotted these at one of the vendors booths. This vendor had TONS of just saucers. I was so surprised to see so many different kinds of saucers in just one vendors area. I bought another set which I will share on a later post. The reason I wanted a set of just plain white saucers? To go with the white and silver coffee mugs I got and blogged about HERE.

Well, I was so happy to find these saucers in this swirl pattern. I think they are just the right simple to be on the elegant side.

They are Ironstone by Johnson Brothers. Each saucer cost .75 cents. Prettier, better quality and cheaper than the Dollar Store! I always love that!

I then drove on and found another Antique Mall in a nearby city which is hosting a huge antique fair tomorrow and I won't be there! Wahhhh! Yes, that is me whining. Anyway, I found this pretty sugar bowl. The color is unique because as the light hits it at different angles it has an almost golden pink look to the glass. I bought it for $2.50

This pretty little sugar bowl now holds my Splenda next to the coffee pot. Can you believe I have still been using a lidded plastic (gasp!!) bowl for Splenda which I use everyday! Well, I am happy to say , "No more of the craziness!"

It really has some pretty cut glass designs in it.

I also found this creamy white vase. It was also $2.50.

I just loved all the swirly and curly designs in it.

Well, those are my pretties for the week.

  4. the plates are beautiful. That particular flower pattern brings back memories for me. The first plate in your other post is like some I had when I had my first apartment when i was 20 yo in the 1970s. Believe it or now the "Five and Dime" store still sold the ones with the plain edge (but gracefully shpaed.) I think I'd bought a few and brought them to college with me too.
Stores used to hold on to things until they sold back then, so they could have been a bit older.
Your mixed collection is going to be just lovely.

  5. Sorry for the delete, typo!
