One Person's Trash, Another Person's Treasure

2nd time Around at A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words

(I didn't even know Sesame Street knew about thrifting! LOL)

Do you have a network of friends and family that you contact when you are ready to get rid of something? We all have things that we no longer need or want and are ready to get rid of. Just because we don't need it anymore doesn't mean one of our friends or family isn't looking for one.

We are super lucky because we have a great circle of friends and family that all do this. We recently were gifted with 3 large boxes of clothes for the little princess. I have to buy very little for her for a winter wardrobe now. You have no idea how grateful I am for that! All the clothes are in perfect condition and cute as all get out! What doesn't fit will be handed off to someone else or donated to a local charity.

This week, a friend of ours was moving and needed to downsize what she was taking. So, she made the round of calls. One of my brothers got two new matching Lazy Boy chairs. My other brother got a new dryer he was in desperate need of. We got an old oak table, 4 matching chairs, a set of old bookcases that come apart (old fashion law office style) and 2 armed chairs.

Our friend wasn't sure if we would want the table & chair set and the bookshelves because she had originally got them as a "redo" project. Well, fortunately for me, she knows I LOVE redo projects so, of course I took them. I probably won't get to them until next spring, but that is okay.

Here are my gifted goodies:

There is actually 4 chairs. The entire set is solid oak.
A little detail on the chairs.

You can see the table top was already stripped down. My dad helped us load these up and he looked at the table and asked me if I recongized it. He then said it was the same table that my grandparents had when they got married and is now painted white and at our family cabin. Sure enough he was right. That makes me love this table all the more.

The 2 chairs. These are actually in really good shape. a little touch up here and there on the wood. I will be changing out the fabric when I redo them in the Spring. I thought I had a picture on the bookshelves but, I don't. You can kind of see them (all apart) behind these chairs.

And on Thursday join me over at Leigh's Blog "Tales from Bloggeritaville" for Thrifty Thursday

  2. So lucky of you to get all those useful furniture from your friend. Not only is it nice that you got them for free but they will also serve as reminders of them even after they move....Christine

  4. I really like all your new old chairs. The two in the last picture remind me of two chairs I bought brand new for my living room. I got them BECAUSE they looked antique, but oh how much NICER if they actually had been!

  5. Wow, nothing is as good as FREE!!!! Can't wait to see the re-dos. I think I've waited too long for all my painting projects as it's getting cold here in northern Ohio. I might try a couple little projects in the basement and try not to asphyxiate myself this winter!!

  7. My sister and her inlaws are all having children at the same time - they have bins of clothing that just keep making the circuit. As soon as a child outgrows the bin they are in, the clothes gets packed up and goes to the next kid in line. There are 6 moms in this round robin and it's fabulous.

What a gift to be able to give away furniture and clothes dryers! It truly is a wonderful world.

  11. Isn't having people to share with and to share with you a great thing. You have gotten some real treasures. Love the table and chairs and the arm chair. I have to admit though, the bookshelves would be my favorite. : )
