Works For Me Wednesday

A couple of nights ago, I had a rough night. I was in a lot of pain (have some issues going on with my neck/shoulders/back). I ended up not sleeping for about 36 hours. So, not fun. However, since I wasn't really able to run laps around the house, I curled up in bed with some homemade herbal tea (thanks to my Darling Hubby who went out into our herbal garden and pick just the right herbs and then steeped a custom blend just for me) and my laptop. I really wasn't in the mood to float through the "frugal, thrifty and mommies" blogs. I needed just some soothing and peaceful reading. Well, I discovered a whole gaggle of beautiful blogs out there! They made me smile and took me to "happy places". Okay, yes, I may have taken a Vicodin of two but, still they were some very lovely blogs.

These blogs brought back happy memories for me. They touched on the beauty of the things around us. Noticing the simpler things. I have gotten so wrapped up in the whole being thrifty that I put aside other parts of me. The fact that I love setting a beautiful table or creating a handmade item for my home. Going outside and enjoying my flowers and herbs, taking some pictures of them. Inviting a Friend over for a light lunch on the patio. Just simple little pleasures that add joy and value to your life.

I have such a bad habit of going gung-ho at something that I have a tendency to push all the other "parts" of me aside. And these lovely blogs brought that fact crashing back at me. All these sides of me is what makes me, well, ME.

So, you will be seeing a little bit of the different sides of Diann in upcoming posts. Oh, I am still going to be Mrs. Thrifty because that is a huge part of who I am and need to keep strong.

Wow, this post sounds more like I should have written for one of the Motivate Me Monday posts instead of What Work For Me. But guess what? This does work for me.

There truly are some wonderfully gifted women out there creating beautiful blogs for us to read. Sharing Little bits of their lives and showing us the beauty in those moments. So, I plan to link in with some of these lovely blogs and hopefully introduce you guys to some of them as well.

And in the lines of "thrifty", here is the dictionary's definition of the word:

See web results for thrifty
See images of thrifty
–adjective, thrift⋅i⋅er, thrift⋅i⋅est. 1. practicing thrift or economical management; frugal: a thrifty shopper.
2. thriving, prosperous, or successful.
3. thriving physically; growing vigorously.

And now the definition of Beauty

1. the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations (as shape, color, sound, etc.), a meaningful design or pattern, or something else (as a personality in which high spiritual qualities are manifest).
2. a beautiful person, esp. a woman.
3. a beautiful thing, as a work of art or a building.
4. Often, beauties. something that is beautiful in nature or in some natural or artificial environment.
5. an individually pleasing or beautiful quality; grace; charm: a vivid blue area that is the one real beauty of the painting.
6. Informal. a particular advantage: One of the beauties of this medicine is the freedom from aftereffects.
7. (usually used ironically) something extraordinary: My sunburn was a real beauty.

How do "Thrifty" and "Beauty" intertwine? If you read the above definition of beauty, it does not speak of money or having to purchase beauty. Beauty just is. So, as a person who lives her life in a thrifty manner, I should be posting about all the free "beautiful" things that are out there free to us to appreciate.

Hummm....maybe I should change my blog title to "The Beauty of thrifty". Here is to a little personal re-oganization. I want to organize my time to include other areas of my life that make me happy.

So, here are a couple of things that make me smile or I see beauty in and they are so thrifty because they are completely free. And make sure to stop by We Are That Family

  1. I hadn't thought of reorganizing myself, but isn't that what we do every New Year's, or any other time we set goals. And that's something I do at the beginning of the school year. Enjoy your new focus!

  2. Cute idea to show the things you find beautiful in a slide show. I love lilacs and rainy days too.

So glad you are being sensitive to God's reworking in your heart.

  3. Diann,
Back pain is no fun. Been there before. Hope you are on the mend. I also seem to go full force in one area and neglect others. I recently made a change and decided it is fantabulous to have multiple personalities. And to think...they can get along with each other. Take that time to have fun and allow beauty within your life. Glad I stopped by!
