Tuesday Tip

You know I am all about reusing things. But, I never said you have to reuse these items forever.

As I was cleaning out some clothes, once again, I found several t-shirts, PJ's, underwear and flannel pants that all were either so stained or shrunk or simply tattered to wear any more. They would be an insult to donate! Their time had come to be thrown out.

I do not need any more rags. I have bags of rags. No more rags. LOL So, these items are going to be reused as "one-time" throw away convenience rags.

I love those handy cleaning wipes you can buy. However, they are a little out of my budget and the Dollar Store ones just don't do the same job as the better quality (and more expensive) ones do. So, I made my own.

I figure one more use out of these throw away clothes was worth a few minutes cutting them up.

Here are some recipes to make your own "Swipe & Toss" cleaning rags:

Clorox wipes - 2 & 1/2 cups of water + 1/4 cup bleach

Multi-purpose wipes - 1 & 1/2 cups white vinegar + 1 & 1/2 cups water

Disinfecting wipes - 1/2 cup of pine sol + 2 & 3/4 water

*Glass cleaner - 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol + 2 & 1/2 cups water + 1 Tablespoon white vinegar.

* I have been using this glass cleaning solution for about 10 years now. If I have a really dirty glass surface to clean, I add 1 teaspoon of dish detergent to the solution.

You can make batches of these cleaning solutions and keep in a spray bottle or just a bottle to refill your wipes container when you need to. As far as containers, use any throwaway container that has a lid. Make your rags to fit that container (no wasting time trying to be perfect!). And remember you just want to saturate the rags, not let them soak in solution. Just keep adding and shaking until all the rags are moist.

And don't forget to make your own laundry softener sheets as well. Instructions HERE! (BTW, I have been making my own since this post and I love them!)
