Friday Funday

Have you started your garden yet? Did you involve the kids as well? Planting vegetables or flowers is a wonderful family activity. Even if you don't have a lot of space. How about letting each child plant their own mini-garden in a container. Let them take care of it and water and weed it.Here are some fun ideas for small gardens.

First off, you don't need to go and buy any special pots, use what you have around. Try:

An old fish tank
Plastic sand bucket
Large coffee can
Milk jugs

Just make sure the items are cleaned out to start with. Punch holes for drainage and add some sort of drainage material in the bottom before you add the soil.

Some fun children's gardening ideas:

Pizza Garden: Plant cherry tomatoes, onions, green peppers, oregano and basil. When everything is ripe and read to use, make a pizza!

Butterfly Garden: You can actually buy seed packets that are designed just to attract butterflies.

Salsa Garden: Tomatoes, cilantro, garlic, onions, green pepper and jalapenos.

Or plant a strawberry patch.

Just get creative and let your children develop their own green thumb!
